‘Nicosia – Wool columns’
Visiting the Omeriye Mosque in Nicosia (Lefkosia in Greek, Lefkoşa in Turkish) I remembered the beautiful pictures that Korkut Bostanci (bostankorkulugu) had posted of this prayer house on TE.
I was also impressed by the design of the giant floorcarpets and their repetitive patterns.
The Omeriye mosque is a Gothic church converted into a mosque in 1571.
Its history is similar to that of the Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque (before the Saint Nicolas Cathedral) in Famagusta. See my previous posts of Famagusta.
In the workshop you find two more pictures:
a view of the interior of Omeriye Mosque and a view from the outside.
