Workshop Note

The background looked good, but I thought it could be more colorful. So I created a custom layer mask, much like I was going to do a constrast mask, but stopped before the blurring. I then used the threshold tool to separate the dark from the light rather than having lots of gray areas. Then I blurred it (guassian, 25 pt). This became my layer mask. I duplicated the original layer, added the layer mask, then set the mode to soft light. The result enhances the background colors without very much darkening of the picture.

I also tried to recover some of the shadow detail but failed. It was probably lost somewhere before posting to TE.
