Photographer's Note

The awful weather that I've encountered during my visit of Amsterdam didn't seem to affect the busy lives of its inhabitants and tourists. With the long exposure I've tried to capture this very agitation of elements (people and all sorts of vehicles) that pushed you either to follow its course or seek refuge in the calmness of a coffee shop. Unfortunately I wasn't lucky enough to capture a beautiful sky for a post card ... but maybe this flat sky suits even better the mood.

The photo was taken in Amsterdam's central square, The Dam, a place maybe too heavily charged of architectural elements but full of history. It is here that Napoleon was greeted when he captured the city in 1808. One can see from the left The Royal Palace, the biggest nonreligious building in the world at the time of its creation in 1648. Another important building is The New Church built in the gothic style in the beginning of the 15th century. Nowadays it holds different exhibitions and it has no religious function.
