Photographer's Note
picture taken in RAW (nikon NEF), then changed exposure and created 3 png's (+- 1,2 EV). with 3 another pictures I created a HDR image using Photomatix Pro and added some sharpness and contrast again using Photoshop..
info about the castle: this castle is one of the most impressive and complete castles remaining in Britain. construction on the original fortification began during the reign of Edward the Confessor (1042–1066) and was completed by Roger de Montgomery, who incidentally became the first to hold the earldom by the graces of William the Conqueror (from wikipedia). unfortunatly I couldn't get inside, because it's closed for winter :)

I like the shot but because of the old building and 2 simple primary colors ("sepia"/blue/green) I would have considered blue(sky) and sepia/brown with maybe an orange or red filter to darken the blue sky and contrast from the brown building. well done

Tomasz,
Great shot! Your exposure gives this castle a surreal look. The lighting and colors are great as is your composition.

Hello Tomasz,
It is great to see people reating HDR images :) HDR has worked great for the sky but I find the castle getting darker towards top gradually from bottom. It looks like you have used ND Grad filter right from the ground. Details, colors and perspective is very nice.
Greetings,

Hi Thomaz
I think you got yourself a typical HDR result and probably you used the 'tone mapper' which is included in the PRO version not in the FREEWARE varsion that I use. The 'tone mapper' often adds a bit artificial colurs as I can see. Try without this detail.
For this particular photo I think I had added a little more light with levels, at least in the upper part and maybe desaturated a little.
Of course making the 3 variants of 1 raw photo may influence the distribution of light in another way than taking 3 photos bracketed. Like commented by irimi it seems like you have used a ND grad filter.
For my own process pls. ref this thread:

For the compo: Good choice of pov - wel disposed in apparently interesting light.
Good luck with the HDR..

Hi Tomasz, hauntingly beautiful. Every colour is separate from the other especially in this type of composition. You have captured this image from an excellent pov. The detail of the castle from the window frames to the green green grass leading the eye to castle and blue sky is superb, although a bit of manipulation does not go unnoticed. well done. TFS.

Very good composition the lights gives some mysterious ambiance.

Hello Tomasz,
This image came among your featured slides (on your Intro page), along with the super photo of the Stonehenge that I've long held in my Favorites Category.
This one is a superb shot, featuring a dramatic sky as the backdrop for the the castle. But it is close to my heart because one of Leonardo's notebooks, Codex Arundel, was somehow acquired by the owners of this castle and still bears the name of the family. I don't know where the notebook resides now; it may still be in the castle and opened to viewing.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Pozdrawiam

Ciao Tomasz
beautiful composition.. the colors and the light create one fantastic atmosphere around to this magnificent castle!
Goodness knows if to the inside there are the ghosts...
:-)
Thanks for critical notes to my photography "Farm" and excuse for the delay!
