Photographer's Note
This is a detail of two minarets that rise from one of the most prominent mosques in the district of Bakri, just over the Blue Nile from downtown Khartoum. The msoque itself has a reputation for being radical in it's views, and hence is none to popular with the government.
The photo is of course an abstract. I quite like abstacts of architecture (I was a civil engineer before teaching) and I like the clouds in the sky that add a balance to the dominance of the right-hand side. To me it's quite important we don't see the base or top of the minarets. This makes them more powerful in my view. Perhaps not your typical TE shot then as it doesn't give to much away but still one I'm proud of.

It is very nice and made more powerful as you say by not having the top and bottom. The sharpness is right on, too. The details are so nice. The patterns are great. The play of light and shadow is nicely captured. And it has a kind of golden tone to it adding more majesty to the scene. And having it to one side like that also adds power by giving it all that sky to command over. Very good job, Tom.

Beautiful light on these minarets and the details in the architecture stand out wonderfully. Nice framing to put them to one side and give the sky prominence too.
I live in China and it is nice to see the crystal clear skies of the desert again ( I lived in the Kalahari for three years).
Only small thing I'd change is that I would like to see the whole curve at the top of the front minaret, rather than have it broken by the top of the frame.

Awake! for Morning in the bowl of Night/Has flung the stone that puts the stars to flight/And round the Sultan's turret cast a noose of light!
(That has to be a wrong quotation - 3 lines instead of four - but it's the feeling it gives me :-)
