Photographer's Note
After seeing some of the work posted by other people on TE I tried an experiment, to do a long exposure on the beach. This one was 5 seconds, which smoothed out the waves and gave the water a strange, glassy appearance. The site is Vancouver's English Bay, in the heart of the city. The lights of the city are visible in the distance, as are the lights of a frieghter at anchor in the harbour.

Hi Alvin. I think I might be first if I can type fast enough! I love the silhouettes and of course the warm horizon is beautiful. The portrait orientation helps put the focus on the foreground. Great shot Alvin!

The composition in the picture is not very strong, maybe lower point of view or having the picture show only the rocks in the water would be better. There is a halo surrounding the rocks and distracting cloud line in the sky.
But, good that you got to experiment with long exposure on the beach; it can result in extraordinary pictures.

Nice effect with the smoothed-out surface of the water, Alvin. Good use of the vertical format to enhance the depth, and the color transition between red/orange and deep blue hues is nice, too. I find the lowest portion of the foreground to be a little too dark though.

Hi Alvin,
A nice work on long exposure, I always like this effect on the water, need to try too myself, but I live a bit far away from the sea... Lovely subtle colors as well in this nice shot.
Have a nice sunday,
Jean-Yves

Hi Alvin -the smooth surface of the water gives it an artistic and painting like quality, and the distant lights of the city and the ship add a fine touch, excellent timing with the sky gradually changing from warm to cool tones.

Hi Alvin, another shot with beautiful evening light. As you say the long exposure makes for an interesting effect on the water. The silky look contrasts with the detail of the rocks on the beach.

Hi Alvin,
Strong contrast between the dark lower part on the brighter top part.I like the graphism, the calm mood and the superb colors.

Hi Alvin
Wonderful sunset colors & lighting. Perhaps a little oversharpened in the fg? Well done & good work overall. Tfs.
