Photographer's Note

These two very small beaches are named ‘Calhetas’ (which would be ‘little inlets’), and they are very near to ‘Santo Agostino’ cape in Pernambuco state, Brazil. That cape is one of the places where South America is closest to Africa (in fact, the precise point is some 200 kilometers north, in the city of Joao Pessoa).

It is mentioned that you can find these points the same geological formations in South America and the African equivalent, proof that both continents where once united.

There is only a small ‘pousada’ (guest house) in Calhetas but it has a fantastic view and may be worth staying one or two nights and wake up to a beautiful scenario (what the photo shows is only a part of it).

The place is about 40 kilometers south of Recife (capital of the State) and with easy access by road.

Raw Capture at ISO 200 – f8.0 – 1/200s @ 54 mm.
Post processing: only raw conversion, and then cropping, contrast (curves) and USM.
