Photographer's Note

Just a snapshot of a man playing his barrel-organ while having a chat with an admirer.

This is from Brno, the second largest city of the Czech Republic, in the southeastern corner of the country. I took this photo partly because of the unusual sculpture. It is dedicated to the memory of Thomas Alva Edison (1847-1931), one of the greatest inventors ever, inventing among many other things the electric light bulb.

But why a sculpture of light bulbs in Brno? Because the Mahen Theatre in this city was, so it is claimed, the first theatre on the European continent to have electric light installed. And by none other than Edison himself, who visited the city in 1882.

The sculpture was made by the Czech artist TomᚠMedek in 2008.

Here is a larger version.

In a workshop you can see the sculpture and musician from another angle.
