Photographer's Note

Monsignore Klaus Meyer, then pastor of St. Stephan parish church at Mainz, managed to motivate famous french artist Marc Chagall (1887-1985) to create several glass windows for his church.
Chagall started his work in 1978 and finished nine glass windows before his passing away. He interpreted his work as a contribution to German-Jewish reconciliation.
I was still a student at that city when the first window was put into its frame. When Chagalls contribution was completed, the remaining windows were manufactured in a very similar style, giving the nave a bluish light seldom seen in churches.
