My Intro to Israel, Day 4, Scene 9
Our next stop was Mount Bental Observation Point developed around an abandoned Israeli bunker. Mount Bental rises to nearly 4000 feet above sea level and offers extraordinary panoramic views of the northeastern Golan Heights and beyond. From the top of Mount Bental, we could see the entire Golan and also a significant distance into Syria. We also caught a panoramic view towards Mount Hermon to the north.
Mount Bental is a dormant volcano. During the Yom Kippur War of 1973, Israel’s struggle to regain strategic control of the Golan took the form of one of the most grueling tanks battles in history. This famous battle was fought from Mount Bental. Syria attacked Israel with 1,500 tanks, the Israeli forces eventually prevailed over the much larger Syrian forces, using just 160 tanks. At the end of the battle, having destroyed hundreds of Syrian vehicles, there were only seven Israeli tanks still in working order. Despite the miraculous victory, Israel lost many soldiers. Today, the valley below Mount Bental is known as the Valley of Tears, as a memorial to the devastating human loss suffered at this location.

Hello Murat,
The barbed stone-baskets was the late 60th method to fortiy army posts along the borders, but, at time of war they dismounted withnthe first shell landed on, and became a rubbeled pile of stones.
Your pic. show how the usual shelter built and can imagine the daily-life in such a place. Fine shot, and accurate story about the area during the war in 1973.
Best rergards,
Ike

Hi Murat,
A profound location indeed, after such a battle. It would certainly seem to be an advantageous lookout point, even if based on nothing other than another photographer taking some pictures. I like how the tourists mimic the silhouetted cut-out in that regard...just glad they aren't carrying weapons too. Sharp, bright and well detailed. Nicely done. enjoy the rest of the evening. Take care.
Friendly wishes,
Jason

Hello Murat,
Good warm versus cold color contrasts between the red earth anjd the blue sky. Superb sharpness and receding tiers of stone resemble an ancient ziggurat. The chicken wire adds interest. I lived adjacent to the DMZ in Korea for a year and saw many similar scenes. Tfs!
