Photographer's Note
Adult King penguins.
The King penguin is the second largest penguin. It is sometimes confused with the larger Emperor penguin since they both have yellow/orange ear patches, but Kings also have this color on their breast.
They are found on many sub-Antarctic islands including Crozet, Prince Edward , Kerguelen, South Georgia and Mazquarie Islands. Total population is estimated to be 1 million breeding pairs.
The photo was scanned from a print, run through NeatImage (default settings), and then I used PhotoShop's sharpening filter on top of that.

I love this shot!
so crowdy and colorful, with those amazing King Penguins (one of my dreams is to travel to their place someday..)
Great crop also, focusing in the center and letting the rest a bit blur.
congrats!!

This has the look of an image processed on two layers, creating what to my eye is a bit strange effect. It appears you've desaturated everything but the yellow and red channels to give us the bright markings of these lovely creatures while draining out any other evidence of color. I would have expected, for example, a hint of brown in the ground, if this were natural. Secondly, although the ground blurs as we approach the background, the penguins have a pretty uniformly sharp form, as though they'd been lifted off the background and processed separately. None of this makes the image less interesting and dramatic, however. This an unusual and wonderful contribution to TE.
Finally, I'm prepared to be told I'm completely wrong about this photo, though I will be surprised if you say it is natural... ;-)

Very good cropping to have almost graphic touch here - not almost it is that ! Those penguins look other directions and it makes this possible. Very well seen this possibility and bravely made to this size. Thanks, Bavid ! I might take it to ws - not for reason, it is bad, no, it is so good one - what to be finded from it. I`m not sure, shall I get something - if not, I do not load my ws.

Hi David, stunning picture, I envy you a bit. It must be a dream to see these animals in real life.
I read that you use Neatimage, I use a different program , also freeware, and I like it very much, it's faster and much better, IMO. You can download it here.
Do me a favour (I don't have any intrest in the product whatsoever, but I think it's SO good), download it, and try it out on this scan. I promise you, it will look far better.

Impressive shot. My recommendation for this picture, is if you could do it again, to capture everything in focus.

Hello David,
Looks almost like an artifact due to motion unsharpness of some birds. Great contrast and coulours. TFS. Thomas
