Photographer's Note
"Sometimes the best things in life are free. Like a walk to the top of Mount Lycabettus in the center of Athens to see the view, one of the best ways to spend a morning or late afternoon in Athens." (Matt Barret, Athens Survival Guide)
Cafι Orizontes, Horizons in English, is located at the top of Mount Lykavittos (Lycabettus), a Cretaceous limestone hill in Athens and a popular tourist destination. The hike to the top is rewarded by spectacular views over the city and the Saronic Gulf, but the hill can also be accessed by funicular railway. At 277 meters (908 feet) above sea level, the hill is the highest point in the city that surrounds it.
It is said that in Periclean Athens wolves roamed freely on Lykavittos, their last haven in the Attica basin, possibly the origin of its name, which translates to "roamed by wolves".
Mythologically, Lykavittos is credited to goddess Athena, who created it when she dropped a mountain she had been carrying from the Pallene headland of Chalkidiki, for the construction of the Acropolis.

Hello Michael,
You find a great POV for this view. The light green chairs were well selceted by the cafι owner, because the fit the scene perfectly. The overcast early evening sky has produced some very fine, mild colours of the city and the distant mountains. This is a very fascinating and attractive view.
Regards,
Gert

Hello Michael - What a great composition; I am impressed by your POV which shows off the huge conurbation of Athens really well. For me the FG detail makes this shot. I love the inclusion of the cafe with waiters, patrons and those gorgeous lime green chairs. These details make a super anchor for the landscape and life the shot out of the ordinary. Superb! Best regards Rosemary

Hi Michael,
This is not the typical Greek view we usually see in this site. It's spectacular, I love the sharpness, the limited range of colours in the picture and the interesting foreground scene. TFS.
Kind regards,
Spela

Hi Michael
an evocative and stunning image this, with perfect clarity, detail and composition. Looks all the more effective because of the overcast sky. A perfectly executed and accomplished image. First class!
