La Calavera Catrina ('The Elegant Skull'), based on a 1913 zinc etching by Josι Guadalupe Posada, is a staple of Mexican imagery. The figure, depicted in an ornate hat fashionable at the time, is intended to show that the rich and fashionable, despite their pretensions to importance, are just as susceptible to death as anyone else.

CUERNAVACA is the capital and largest city of the state of Morelos in Mexico. The name is derived from the Nahuatl phrase Cuauhnahuac and means "surrounded by trees". It was Hispanicized to Cuernavaca ("cow horn") because the Spanish could not pronounce the original name. Our main reason for visiting this enjoyable and rather well-off town is Malcolm Lowry's Under the Volcano, which was written here and has some of the city's sights featuring in it.

It is a most macabre and, yet, eye catching image, Benny; not the sort of thing you would like to set up in your home! The juxtaposition of this and the Christian images, sets the mind thinking, always a pleasing aspect of a photograph. The exposure is sharp and certainly a suitable shot for this site.

Hello Benny. I like the Cult of the Dead in Mexico. People go there naturally and at ease with death. The contact with the dead is maintained and the ancestors is still expected. We can all learn from the Mexicans, because they do not crowd the death of her consciousness. A great photo - ideal for TE. Rgds, Wolfgang.

Wanneer men jong is hoeft men niet aan de dood te denken, nu wanneer ik ouder ben geworden, denk ik daar iedere dag aan.
Maar het mag zeker geen obsessie worden, en leven met de mooie dingen dat ons aangeboden worden iedere dag.
Dit beeld is lmooi en scherp genomen, geeft ons een beeld wat er in de wereld is te zien.

I like this one also. An atypical composition on TE, I think it's the less we can say. :)
Very interesting your note which allows to understand this surprising association, not sure it's much appreciated by the rich.

There is a strange combination of Christian store with Halloween's decoration. As a photo is good catch of daily life. Nicely framed, excellent colors and light.
