Hello John
A landscape photographer trying to visit an other world ! Good idea! During my recent trip to Madagascar I tried to do the same. The portrait is well framed with good position of the eyes and without shadows of the hat. However the red hue of the face could be a little bit reduced. Good idea to try an other speciality my friend

Hi John

Very convincing portrait shot, natural skin tones and a good memory for you. The only thing what is a bit irritating are the trees in the BG, they are heavily tilted. You better F5.6 or similar, because with F16 also the BG is more or less in focus. Well done.

Thanks for your critique of my hot air balloon start. I was told that this is the Belgium team. I also have never seen this kind of gondola. If you like, I can mail you the full size picture that you can better identify the man. Just let me know.

Vooroordelen zijn meestal niet goed maar het is prachtig dat het portret van deze man een echt cliché is van hoe een bioloog eruit ziet ;-)

The DOF is here very wel used in order to create an ideal background, like in painting, on a rather impressionnist way. The character's smile, a bit shy, brings all the sensitivity such a portrait needs. A very well spotted expression: congratulations!

It's good to see you are still trying other diciplines in photography my friend. I am not a great portrait man but I like to see others doing it well. Great depth of field and sharpness, the skin tones look good to me too, but that hat.....it can only belong to a biologist, though I'm sure my grandmother had one! lol

The face of this man, his expression happy and full of charm, his clean look, and his hat, they fill the picture with a nice vitality.

Usually, portraits bring just emotion. It's not easy to make feel more. But here, i can fell that this man is really "natural". He has all the characteristics of the scientist you describe in your note. I especially enjoy the pov, sharpness of his face and colors.

Non è assolutamente semplice realizzare dei ritratti! Questo mi sembra magnifico!! Con questo taglio hai dato carattere al soggetto, fra l'altro un bel soggetto! Ricorda qualcosa di Van Gogh questa immagine, sia nella composizione che nei colori e sopratutto nel carattere! Bello anche il fondo con il filare di alberi inclinati e la tonalità del verde un pò sfocato! Perfetto!!

Hello John,
this is an amazingly vivid portrait, strikingly sharp and with excellent depth. You obviously took into account all the details of his countenance as well as his hat in order to compose and frame the young biologist's portrait. The backdrop was superbly selected, lit and cropped too; it enhances the dynamism of the the model , the greens provide great contrast and the blue sky matches his shirt and adds calmness. Your light management is remarkable. I like very much the liveliness of his glance, you think he'll blink or move in a moment. Marvellous work, congratulations and thank you!
