Vila Franca do Campo Islet

Belonging to the wonderful So Miguel Island, Azores Archipelago, situated right in the vast Atlantic Ocean, in front of the beautiful village of Vila Franca do Campo, this lovely volcanic Islet has an area of 95 hectares (from which 62 are underwater), and is classified since 1993 as a Natural Reserve.
The natural beauty of this extinct underwater volcano crater delights those who contemplates it, being one of the favourite holiday destination during summer months. A boat service is provided from June to September, connecting to Vila Franca do Campo.
The Islet interiors presents a beautiful and quite pleasant natural swimming pool, constituted by the volcanos flooded caldron with a maximum depth of 20 meters, that is linked to the ocean.
The Natural Reserve of the Vila Franca Islet houses several flora and fauna species of great importance, and is nowadays endowed with several facilities to help the visitor.
