Photographer's Note
Scene from Chesterman Beach, near Tofino on Canada's Pacific coast. I was trying to show the mist or sea spray that is thrown up by the waves, which gives the seashore a different look than any other place. Using a long lens (300mm, and with a crop format camera the equivalent of 450mm) I got a really compressed perspective, and shooting into the light you could really see the sea spray quite well. I have also been striving to get my shots cleaner, more simple and uncluttered, which the long lens helps with because it narrows your vision. I was using my old D70 because I wanted to take advantage of the crop format, and I had different lens on my D200 which I was also carrying with me at the time. I don't know about anyone else, but I tend to keep all my old cameras as I like to use them in certain situations. The problem is that they seem to accumulate much faster in the digital age than they did in film days!

Great shot Alvin and thankd for making me home-sick ya bugger ;-)
Love the silhouettes of the people and misty trees in contrast to the bright misty waters. Perfect placement of the people in the shop. What brings you back to TE? You were missing for quite some time- no?
All the best,
- Dan

Hello Alvin,
A wonderfully effective shot of Chesterman Bech. The water is so shallow that the group appear to be walking on water. Like you, I too hang onto my old cameras, most of them film cameras. Two decades ago we had a break in, and an accordian-like Voigtlander that had belonged to my grandfather was one of the items taken. For nostalgic reasons, that was a painful loss.

Hello Alvin, nice to see this huge beach.
I like the silouhettes walking on the shore.
I have been there years ago, in summer, and I really enjoyed that place.

Hi Alvin,
Beautiful, just beautiful. The clarity of the silhouettes and the misty background is awesome.
This shot brings back quite some memories... I was there on 9-11 after returning from a 3-day kayak trip the day before. It was odd not to see any planes or contrails in the sky.
Thanks for sharing, best wishes

Hi Alvin
Great shot with the people in silhouette but very prominent in the scene. A good job of catching the sea spray. I also carry two cameras as I figure the less I have to change lenses the less chance of getting dust on the sensor. Although I must admit the bag is getting heavier.

Hi Alvin,
I see a 300m/m, great..!!! Not many would think about that in using such a lens here, but one of the reason why i always bring mine is that so now and then it can be very useful and can bring you very nice perspective shots...like this one we see here.
The silouettes on the beach, the damp over the water, two elements that i like to see here...very good work.

Henk

Hi Alvin,
A classic view with the walking of dog as the mist rises from the sea. I see you stepped back to your trusty old D70 for this one - to protect the newer bodies? Well done and TFS. Gerald

Great shot, Alvin!
Good use of exposure control to get those silhouette at a nice 1/3rd compo, against the bright sea spray. The long focal length, as you stated, really does the job and deliver a very compressed and clean compo.
Well done!

Hi Alvin,
The capture of the power of the ocean and the reflections in the wateri are assets to the composition. The presence of the people and of the dog has an effect of scale. The mist is giving a special effect to the photo. The light is well managed. Have a nice day
