AFRICAN PENGUIN in ATTICA PARK

Distribution:
South Africa and Namibia.
Food:
Various fish species. They can travel a distance of up to 70 kms to find food.
Data:
Lives in large colonies on the seashore and around some islands. Nests in holes in the ground or under rocks, laying 2 eggs, which are incubated for 38 days. Penguins' eggs and chicks are vulnerable to predators on both land and in the sea. Predators on land include jackals, gulls and the sacred ibis; at the sea they are hunted by octopus and shark.
Population has been in constant decline since 1960 mainly due to commercial over fishing of its prey species. Large numbers have also died because of crude oil spills. From a high of 1.000.000 pairs in the early 20th Century, today's population is less than 50.000 pairs. Between 2004 and 2006 their population declined by 40%!

That one is trying to sleep!! ;-)

It is a re-posted image.. I fixed the colour, lightness and contrast. I also put a frame. I believe is much better now! I hope you like it too!!
