Photographer's Note

This is the highest mountain in the Hauyhauysh and the people in the foreground were a South African expedition. They had met the young man who had died. He had climbed the ice face and had fallen on the descent on the right although they went to help he was already dead but as in South Africa at that time nobody was allowed to remove the body until the police had come. Therefore they had sent one of them to the nearest police station four days away. It was sometime later that I was asked to help with the police as he was not Peruvian.
It was and is a beautiful place to go, very wild but for me a sad event.
