Photographer's Note
From El Calafate in Argentina we took the early morning bus to get in about 6 hours to the Torres del Paine National Park in Chile. From the bus we had excellent views on the very open plains (steppes) of Patagonia and we saw several guanacos (kind of wild lamas, but actually relatives of the camel) and nandus (big birds; kind of ostridges). Once we had crossed the border, it wasn't very far to Torres del Paine anymore. Before going to our campsite, we went through the park by bus to have a look at different 'hotspots'.
The most beautiful place we saw that day, was the south end of Lago Grey. We had a wonderful walk at the pebble 'beach' of this lake and were able to admire the large number of icebergs that were waiting here to melt away. These icebergs were once part of the big Grey glacier (visible in the distance) and are driven by the wind to this end of the lake where they are stopped by the shore. The view was absolutely astonishing, despite the very cold and strong Patagonian wind and the cloudy sky.
This picture was taken from the Hosteria Lago Grey where we had lunch. About half an hour later we were walking in front of the icebergs (where you can see the other people in the picture).
Tech: scanned the slide with a Minolta Dimage Scan Dual III in "slight colour cast" mode (the original was even more blue), removed dust in Photoshop and applied USM (100/0.8/1).

A beautiful picture of the ice world!
I thin that the people in the front of the picture make this photo. It gives a good idea of the enormous ice bergs behind them and the magnificent mountain landscape.
Good composition

Beautiful place. The picture is overexposed, may be you can fix it in the photoshop. As well as some out of focus. Colours are great.
Thanks for share.

Nice composition and well framed. Ice, mountains and interesting detail to give a scale at this photo with these silhouette ... very well done.

Very interesting and intriguing composition, Michael.
I'm not quite sure I understand levels of foreground vs. background - it seems to me that the FG is on a higher level than BG? Is that possible?
Your blue tones are magical!

Wow Michael, stunning landscape, a lot of snow and ice and gletschers. I can see what you mean by the strong Patagonian wind, and all the cold that comes from those icebergs. Those sharp mountaintips are so beautiful, but so inhospitable as well. Really impressive.
I'm not sure if Patagonia is something for me, I guess I would be cold all the time.

Terrific photograph. It is nice that you include human figures as it gives the scale of the mountain and the icebergs. It's awesome in a different way compared to the grand Canyon. I am glad you posted it. Thank you.

It's beautiful, Michael. I like the deep colors of the blue ice. THe row of people down there catches the eye and provides another interesting subject. Very well done.

Hi Michael, You have presented an unusual beach scene here. The silhouette style people added not only the dynamics to the scene, but also the scale to the ice and the beach. The blue mountain formations are beautiful. The photo is clear with nice contrast. Well done.

Very impressive. When I look out there it doesn't seem so large because everything is large. But then as the eye funnels down the glacier like a river and tumbles into the lake like a waterfall and across I spot the people and that really gives an idea of the size of everything. Their dark silhouettes are excellent against the blue ice. And everything flows so beautifully through this image. Even the trees come out of the right like water flowing down toward the glacier which leads out to us, the viewer. I've alwalys wanted to go to South America. It's an amazing continent. And the more I see of South America on TE the more I want to go there.

Patagonia. I'm sure I once will visit it and this marvelous picture confirm that choice.

Not the best tech maybe with the very burned background. Still a very interesting compo with the details of the glacier not least with the tine people passing. Very good, informative notes to follow the photo - good Te spirit..

Amazing landscape! The overall roughness, together with the blue atmosphere creates a surreal image. I also like the surprise of seeing people on it after opening the full size image. It shows the greatness of the scale of this place.
