‘Iquique - Living in a fantasy world’
Back to the Pacific coast of northern Chile.
Iquique is an important port. The city has more inhabitants than Arica, the first city that I visited in the north of the country. There is less that small town feel here. Although then again when you compare Iquique with Santiago.
The city’s development was due in large part to the discovery of mineral riches, particularly the presence of large deposits of sodium nitrate in the Atacama Desert.
In the center of the city you can find some beautiful buildings from the colonial era.
During my photo hunting of these buildings in colonial style, I passed this house and couldn’t resist taking a picture.
In the workshop two more pictures taken in the historic center of Iquique.
The city is quite pleasant, has a lively atmosphere and there are definitely some good restaurants.
Striking and thought-provoking however are the warning signs for possible tsunamis caused by undersea earthquakes.
Iquique has been devastated by several earthquakes. The biggest were in 1868, in 1877 and in 2005. The last one had a magnitude 7.9 on the Richter Scale.
Here you can see how many earthquakes recently have occurred: http://earthquaketrack.com/p/chile/recent
Perhaps that’s the reason why some people dream of living in a fantasy world.

Hello Paul,
A very colourful mural with the cactus and hummingbird providing a glimpse into South American flora and fauna. Good sharpness and saturation and the man walking by animates the scene. Tfs!

Hello Paul,
There is no lack of colours in this photo, This kind of graffiti doesn't look like the one you make in a hurry during the night, worried that you could be caught by the police. But regardless if it was made by a hired artist it probably brightens the look of the entire street. Your photo is brightened by the inclusion of the man walking by. The workshop photos are very nice too and tell us more about this pleasant city (I take your word for that).
Kind regards,
Gert

Dag Paul,
Heel mooi foto werk, bedankt.
Groeten,
John.

Bonjour Paul,
C'est une trθs bonne idιe que de profiter d'un passant pour animer une telle scθne.On y rencontre l'ordinaire de la ville qui contraste avec les couleurs des artistes. Beau contraste.

Good evening Paul,
A stunning colors of the painted faηade, its owner must have an artistic mind to do such a beautiful job.
The passing man gave motion scale and life to the still scene.

Hello Paul,
It would have been so tempting to post the shot of the centre of Iquique because it is so sharp and so representative of the area but this is so much more fun! Here, you have shown us something completely different and symbolised the people's love of colours!
I wonder who lives in a house like this!
It's a mixture of cultural patterns and Disney cartoons!
What fun!!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Paul
I don't think you have enough colours in this photo haha.
Its actually easy to find these colourful street scenes in Chile, I remember many of them in several different cities.
Very interesting note to go along with the photo, I had no idea about the history of devistation here.
well done all around, captured my attention right away.
cheers

Hi Paul,
I like this cheerful and colourful picture. I assume that the man on the picture is too tired to enjoy the scene fully, looking at his bended shoulders.

Hello Paul,
The colors here are great! I like this mural as a work of art, but I don't think I'd actually like to live in such a bright house! The cactus plants seem to be waving hello to the viewers. :-) You captured the man walking by at just the right spot. Very nice framing and presentation, too.

Hello Paul,
Your photo captures the pedestrian in just the most salutary position of the frame, against a colorful wall painting. I'll see about creating a group theme that includes photos such as The Silent Witness and Starry, starry night. More immediately, however, we can hang it in the group theme Pictures at an Exhibition II.

Bulent
