Photographer's Note
In my last post I said I would show more photos of the Salkantay Trek, and I'll keep that promise as I will alternate the photos.
Here we have another Moai Statue on Easter Island. I really wanted to get a photo where it shows the details in the stone and I think this one does that fairly well.
The Moai were carved out of a nearby volcano. At the volcano itself you can see 2 Moai were still 'in progress' during the carving stage - very cool indeed as you can see the figures shaped right into the side of the volcanic rock.
This Moai here is very tall, much taller than me! My guess is he's about 15 feet - some reached heights of 35 feet.
Hope you like it
Cheers

Hi Craig, It is perhaps the most classic view from Easter Island, it reminds me a big morel (mushroom). The details of the carving are nicely shown here indeed. It is funny for me that people in Canada or Australia are not using the International System of Units. "he's about 15 feet" -I do not imagine how much it is.
15 feet = 4.5 m. Much taller!

Hello Craig,
An impressive one statue from many that built along the coast of Easter-island, other side of the world for us...
A monumental display, legendery origion. Once I red an article in the National-Gerographic about those statues, the intriguing and interesting place that still a mystery.
Cheers for the long & far trip taken, and showing such a place.
Enjoy a nice weekend,

Hi Craig
This is such an incredible place, and you've composed this guy really well looking out over the landscape, and throwing that shadow into the greenery. I really like how the line of his jaw matches perfectly with the line of the land, keeping his whole face against the blue sky.
All the best

Hello Craig,
I like the simple elegance of this shot. The green and blue of the grass and sky are the perfect compliments to Mr. Moai and his shadow. I was channel surfing the other day, and a travel show about Easter Island popped up! It was interesting to get more info on the culture and history. It's definitely a fascinating place.

Craig, I like this profile view of the statue, with a general diagonal feel to the shot from the shadow, the path, and the hillside matching the nose. The stone detail is fine. I'm still surprised by the isolation of this figure; I expected many more of them together in one place. Thanks.

Hi Craig,
A nice blue sky backdrop and the enigmatic statue is perfectly positioned on the vertical 1/3 axis to comply withe the golden mean. Good sharpness and superb graphism. Excellent textural details in the pitted, volcanic stone. Tfs!

Hi Craig,
To state the obvious, your pictures from this trip are a big success here on TE! :) I must admit, it's been a long time since I've paid a great deal of attention to Easter Island...but these images have reinvigorated the interest. Always intriguing for sure, but I think due to its remote location it kind of gets lost in the higher profile cities around the world. All of that aside, this is another awesome shot! Great positioning...with this Moai looking outward, and your placement slightly behind, it feels to put me right along side. The blue/green color combo is always pleasing, and the texture is really strong. Nailed it again! Hope you're having a good weekend.
Best regards,
Jason

Hello Craig,
The remoteness of Easter Island and the many questions raised by the Moai and the culture that has produced them have made pictures of these statues always very attractive to me.
This photo shows beautifully the weatherworn statue in the abandoned area.
I was wondering how many Moai are there on the island ...
Best regards, Paul

Hello Craig
You hope that we like it? I love it. As you the statues of Easter Islands have had a magical spell on me since I first heard of them as a little boy. Unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity yet to visit.
Love the framing and the way we look together with the head over the lovely landscape. Love the shadow as well.
I just never realized that the Easter Islands where so green.
have a good sunday

Hello Craig,
What an adventure you must have had. Easter island is one of those far away places that you learn about at school but rarely visited. I like the simple way that you have composed this with the statue dominating the shot to one side and casting a long shadow. The detail on the stone is clearly visible against the green grass and blue sky. Excellent quality.
Kind Regards, Ann

Hi Craig,
Another very effective capture of this lone statue against the green hill and blue sky !
I like the very neat profile of the huge head and its elongated shadow on the grass.
Great contrast between the dark statue and the bright landscape in the background.
Thanks for sharing.
Best wishes.

Hi, my friend Craig,
yes, in this sharp image we can admire the details of the carved stone in the Moai, caught by means of an efficient close-up.
I like the good light, the shade of the Moai on the grass, and its beautiful contrast with the blue sky.
A great composition, skilfully executed.
