Photographer's Note
As I've said in my last upload from Easter Island, its really hard to produce an original composition of these Moai statues - I hope this is at least something different from the norm.
This shot was taken early in the morning as the sun was breaching the horizon line, giving me a perfect chance to capture a silhouette of the Moai's profile.
I'm still in awe of this place, words cannot describe how much fun i had and to the overall experience on Easter Island.
Hope you like this one
Cheers

Hello Craig,
The title is very well chosen.
I like the position of the Moai silhouette on the picture with a partial view of the ocean in the background.
The long lines of beautifully coloured clouds look wonderful.

Hi Craig, Marvelous, magic shot. it is not important how many times you have seen it on other photos, always big impression. I like the silhouette of this big moai against the beautiful sky and the rocks still in dark.
The same problem is in every iconic place. You come to Taj Mahal, or Petra, or Chichen Itza, or Sydney Opera :) you make some (or many) shots - but... everything was already shown. But it is creative, concentrated on one big statue rather than on fifteen.
Marvelous view.

Hi Craig,
the title captures perfectly the unique mood of the scene and this particular time of a day.It has something magical, but also mystical in itself- just like the history of these statues.
The rising sun with so beautiful, warm colors and the silhouette of the Moai Statue make here really delightful and expressive composition.
Inspiring shot!
Have a good day

Hi Craig,
I guess it is really difficult making something original at those famous places already photographed a billion times. I still feel the lack of a photo which delivers the size of these giants in comparison with a human figure standing by, or an extreme low POV obtained by lying down on the ground. Well, in case the statues are surrounded by some fences, these ideas would be impossible to realize for sure.

Hello Craig,
On these way I am a little bit on a trip through your pictures.
Every picture has a big value, through the different subjects.
A splendid contrast picture with the silhouette of the statue in foreground.
Excellent composition, good presentation too. TFS.
Kindest regards,

Hi Craig,
The evening light is spectacular and does indeed create a new and fascinating scene of the statue. It holds a lot more intrigue that it is in silhouette, and really draws me in to imagine its expression in detail. I love how you have placed it against the inlet as well, showing its full height on the landscape. As ever, thanks for sharing.

Hello Craig
Without knowing what was at the right, it's hard to comment meaningfully that perhaps it would have been better composed with the 2/3 space on the right, looking in the same direction as the facing silhouetted statue, but this is fine as is. Good sharpness and a nice sunrise backdrop. Tfs!

Hi Craig
strange I should see this after my posting today. It has similar qualities to my posting but they could not be further away from each other. I know I would have preferred to be on Easter Island with a sunrise like this rather than on a cold East Sussex beach. Awesome and magical!

Hi Craig
Excellent choice of title in this intriguing portrait of the well known statues. The silhouetted foreground plays well with the colours of sunrise. For sure it must have been a great experience to visit such a remote place. I guess you know it was the Norwegian scientist Thor Heyerdahl who led the first archaeological excavations on Easter Island in 1955/56.
Excellent executed shot:)
Have a nice day.

Hi Craig,
that's a great one, the man looks dumbstruck by the beauty of the sunrise so he got frozen in his contemplation and now he'll be meeting the sun forever.:)
As for your note - I don't think you should chase originality in every shot, a beautiful scene won't stop being beautiful even if it's been photographed by scores of people before you. It's your experience anyway, so why worry about someone else's?:)

Hello Craig,
Yes, one of the Moai is doing the contemplating, but glancing at the thumbnail my eyes played tricks on me. It looked like the silhouette of a person with a backpack!! I thought it might be Tosca. :-) The sky and lighting are lovely. You have peaked my interest about Easter Island, and I'll be doing some Googling about it. :-)

Hi Craig,
Your choice of title is fitting on multiple levels, this image conveys the very nature of contemplation. I'm a sucker for silhouettes, and this is an understated gem! The minimal subject matter here speaks volumes in its appearance, what a magical type of place this must be...and to capture this serene moment would be, and is, inspiring imagery. Love that you've kept this simple and to the point, and have given a sense of anticipation for a new day ahead. What else can I say, another awesome photo!
Have a good one.
Best regards,

Ciao Craig
Complimenti!
Ciao e buona serata

Hi Craig
I was only commenting yesterday on one of Brian's (Timecapturer)shots that reminded me of Easter Island and here we have an actual shot of the very statues I was referring to! Small world! Nice mood for contemplation in this scene with the sunset colours too. Seems all that's missing is a giant cigar of the Jamaican variety for the statue to have a chillaxing evening!

I could see this shot on one of those inspirational posters, Craig! The stone monolith, looking out over the sunrise which is blooming behind him - a hopeful shot, to be sure! Excellent silhouettes here, with just a hint of color in the cliff faces off in the distance. A really delicately done shot.

No wonder you're in awe of this place, I'm definitely in awe of your photo. The silhouettes are so striking and with that marvellous sunrise in the background, you couldn't have asked for more from Mother Nature. The low POV is superb, the image is pin sharp and I love the colour rendering. As I said to you on Instagram, you're living the dream my friend. Good on you, and thanks so much for sharing this exotic place and moment with us. I can just imagine the beauty, the awe and the silence at the time you were there. Wow.

Hi Craig,
What a fabulous shot - and very well worth all the effort of getting out early to capture it!
That sky is just stunning, with the undersides of the clouds illuminated by the warm light of the rising sun and making a fabulous backdrop to the razor-sharp silhouette of the Moai.
Gorgeous light and colours, perfect exposure and stunning details and clarity.
Fabulous!
Kind Regards,
John.
P.S. I note from your discussions with Lisa that this is your favourite photograph from Easter Island - so I'm adding it to my favourites too!

Hi, my friend Craig,
a splendid cross-light on this Moai in Easter Island, a true icon of this awesome place.
The management of the exposure is impeccable, you have reached a fantastic contrast of the silhouettes of the Moai and of the landscape on a gorgeous sky with a few pink clouds.
It's a beautiful composition.

Hi Craig,
Well, getting there on sunrise certainly increases chances of getting original shots, people like to sleep then :) I probably would, unless I had serious jet lag. Very original, rough edged silhouette. I wonder if it tells something about original artists.
Morning light with those thin clouds looks very good too.

Hello Craig!
You are certainly travelling, my friend! I only can be jealous! But good for us, we are able to see amazing places through your fantastic 'eyes'
A fine shot of the Moai statue taken in silhouette against the fine sky! The shot itself is quite dramatic. But am a bit curious about the composition...why did you not have the statue more to the left of the frame, rather than on the right of centre as it is now? There's some amount of black silhouetted part on the left, which 'could have' been left out...I don't know, but perhaps thinking a bit more, you may have wanted the clouds in the frame & the clouds were to the left..
Just a thought! But a fine picture!
Cheers!

Hello Craig,
Looks like you have been travelling alot recently. Congrats. Easter Island is said to be one of those places to visit before you die...I look into it but I was not totally convince, your opinion now that you were there?
I've lots of photo from here, I think you did great, original compo or not. It is your, we all have them to call our own. For sure the light and sky is alays different. You have really wonderful sunset sky and the silhouette is unmistakable Easter Isl.
