Vaquejada, a photo from Minas Gerais, Southeast

Photographer's Note

The Vaquejada is a recreational activity and competitive, with sports characteristics, practiced in the Northeast region of Brazil and north of Minas Gerais State, in which two cowboys on horseback are chasing the animal (ox) to pair it from the horses and lead to goal (the last two tracks of lime in the track of vaquejada), where the animal must be overthrown.

The disputes are among several pairs, which on horseback chasing the track and trying to overthrow the bull in the appropriate range for the fall, ten feet wide, drawn in the ground of the track with lime. Every cowboy has a function: one is the batter's belt, the other is the overthrower.

The Scout's Belt
Is in charge of directing the bull close to the overthrower at the time of the race of animals and catching the tail of the ox and immediately go to the colleague.

The Overthrower
It is the responsibility of pulling the tail of the ox and dropping it into the appropriate range.

Judge
The judge serves as an arbitrator in the dispute between the pairs and should be the top of the range where the ox shall be overthrown. As dusk fell on the track, depending on the site, points are added or not to.

If the ox Chop is within the range appropriate to this end with all four feet into the air, he shouts to the audience: "Valeu Boi" then adds to the double points if not, he says: "Zero Boi", the duo can not score points.

A fine capture of action here. A strong image full of contrast and intense colours. The poor animal looks rather scared here and pretty young too. I see it has no horns, did they cut them to avoid their danger? No fair, it has no chance to defend itself...

That is an interesting shot what reminds me on the corrida in Spain, but there is a huge difference, you are not fighting the bull. It's an excellent action shot with the right settings to produce vibrant colors and high sharpness. Well done. Thanks for your critique of my paddy farming shot. This tractor is a very very basic manual model, it is more a diesel engine with a plow share.
