Photographer's Note

Luiz de Bessa State Library, at Liberty Square, is the main public library in Belo Horizonte, and was initially designed by the renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer, having been conceived by the state governor at the time, Juscelino Kubitschek, in 1954. This entrance in the picture is the main part, but there is another nearby. There is a project for a bridge uniting the two parts. The writers represented by the bronze statues in front of the library are Otto Lara Rezende,Fernando Sabino, Paulo Mendes Campos, and Hlio Pellegrino. In a few words, it is an excellent library, with a very rich collection, and it is a very pleasant place to read a book. See WORKSHOP for a close-up of the writers.
