Porto Alegre is the capital of Brazil's coldest state. Its summer, however, compares - or tops - cities more "traditionally tropical", like Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and Recife.
And mostly because it's so freakin' hot, the city goes empty on holiday season, with everyone going to the nearby beaches. It makes for a wonderful scenery of blue skies, sun, and empty streets.
