Photographer's Note
Another photo that I took at the Papua New Guinea national Sing Sing to celebrate self government in 1971. The mudmen are from a village in the PNG highlands and during a tribal battle they were driven into the Asaro River where they became covered in a thick grey mud. When they came out of the river their pursuers became scared and ran away. Only a few members of the tribe are entitled to appear as mudmen.
The European people, especially the woman in the hat, provide almost a comic contrast.
Scanned from a slide.

First I was thinking that the spectators were distracting from the scene but actually I find it comic to see the actors and the lady with the hat side by side, it's fun and original,
Compliments and best regards,
Cath.

Lep pogled i trenutak, dobar tekst ...
Lepa igra za turiste, dobro pokazano sa lepim bojama, kontrastom i uhvacenim trenutkom.
Lepa scena i fotografija.
Zelim vam sve najbolje.

Hi Ian
A fascinating glimpse of these New Guinea mudmen in their masks. Good sharpness and an appreciative crowd is watching the dance. Tfs!
