The Catlins is a rugged area in the south-east corner of New Zealand's South Island. Inland it is rugged and forested whilst the coast has some spectacular spots. It is a very peaceful area that doesn't get large numbers of visitors.
At Waipapa Point there is an old lighthouse dating from 1884. It was built after a ship was wrecked on the point. There is another photo of it in the WS and also a photo looking along the nearby deserted beach.
Have a good long weekend (if relevant) - I'll be back when the family have all gone home.

Hello Ian,
The lighthouse isn't very tall, but it looks nice and sturdy. I like the dark tones of the photo and it's a bonus to have two persons included, just like the WS. The beach looks nice but the weather is not very inviting.
Happy Easter,
Gert

Hi Ian,
The lighthouse is well placed in the frame. The point of view is showing the details of the Waipapa lighthouse. The light is giving good colors rendering. Have a nice day.

Hello Ian,
This does look like a wild and quite inhospitable setting! A wrecked ship here would find few creature comforts!
Your main photograph is very well composed, with the lighthouse strongly positioned off-centre, linking together the land and the sea.
Your w/s confirm the nature of the setting, as you say, remote and with few visitors.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Ian
Well captured to show the lighthouse at its best. I like the off-centre composition and the person reading what must be the description or history of the building adds much-welcome sense of scale - how lucky they weren't wearing khaki. :-D
The WS are a good addition, I like #2 especially for its mixture of coulours.
Thank you and enjoy your long family weekend yourself!

Hello Ian,
A beautiful and very well composed photo with the lighthouse at right overlooking the sea. The grassy hills in the foreground and the red door add some colour to the cloudy day as well.

Hello Ian, a good composition with a good view of the sea that the lighthouse looks over.
It is quite a short lighthouse, but obviously tall enough to do its job!
Thank you for the extra shots.
Have a good weekend.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Ian
The crimson base and door of the lighthouse contrast well against the blue sky. I also like the layering of fg green tussock grass and the drab brown upper section in the bg. Tfs!

Hello Ian,
Probably a very windy place by the sea.
Even if someone survived the shipwreck at the time, this doesn't seem like the ideal place to wash ashore.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Ian,
The name of the places remind me the Hawaiian names, which of course makes sense since Maori is probably a Polynesian language or close.
Beautifulcapture of this lovely lighthouse.
The sky is not my favourite but it looks very pretty here. The presence of people adds a very nice tocuh here.
Nice that you included the sea in the distance as well,
M

the point where this light house is installed should be very high because the structure isn't so high. nice details.
