Photographer's Note
Best opened in a new tab for better detail.
Our walk un Gundabooka NP took us to the Mulgowan Aboriginal Rock Art site in an area of large rock overhangs. The art is on the underside of the overhangs so that makes it tricky for taking photos. The Aboriginal artists would had to lie on their backs. Luckily my camera has a fold out screen to use and live view so I could lean over the protective fence to get photos.
I'm not sure what the main painting is, perhaps a stylised map. I've seen a similar painting at Mt Grenfell, a couple of hundred kilometres away.

Hello Ian,
The smaller figures in the lower part look similar to many others, while the strange large pattern reminds me of non-figurative art, but far ahead of its time. Very interesting, and you were lucky to have a camera that allowed you to take such a picture.
Best regards,
Gert

These old paintings on rocks are very interesting, they are mostly very realistic, I can imagine it can be really a map

The point of view is showing the details of the Aboriginal artwork. It is clear and precise. The surrounding light is making the colours to stand out. Have a nice day.

Hello Ian, you managed a great shot of this unusual art thanks to the facility on your camera.
It makes one wonder why the artist decided to paint on the underside of the rock surface, maybe considering how best to provide protection.
Nevertheless, it is amazing that it has lasted so long.
Thanks for sharing, kind regards, Jean.

Hello Ian,
I'm so curious, is this a protected site? I ask because you had to hang over a fence. Was this for protection for tourists or protection for the art?
This is utterly fascinating!
Who knows what the pattern represented, maybe a spirit as it appears to have feet and a heart.
You have done a fine job of photographing them in difficult circumstances.
Thank you for sharing this,
Bev :-)

Hello Ian,
The large drawing looks a bit like a maze that you have to try to get out of as a game.
We also see an emu and a man.
Beautiful presentation.

Hi Ian,
It certainly is a wonderful ancient rock painting. Your angle seemed a bit strange, but your note describes the reason well. Just lovely.

Hello Ian,
Beautiful view of this amazing art on the rocks. The white lines and shapes look beautiful against the textures and brown and yellowish colours of the rocks.

Hi Ian
Seems to be a maze, a kind of jail to get the ostrich pussed by the man.
Good use of your camera to record this fantastic primitive wall painting.
Best regards

Hello Ian,
It is always fascinating how people all over the world made drawings in the early old days that we now call art. This makes us realize that capturing daily life in art (realistic or abstract) is an important human necessity of life.
Beautiful photo to show a contribution to this art of the aboriginals.
Excellent work
Have a nice Sunday.
