Photographer's Note
I dedicate this photo to my dear friend Carluccio (Carlo62). One day I hope to show you and your lovely wife the stars of my country. If you look closely, you can see the Milky Way (in Aboriginal astronomy, The Emu) and a number of Magellanic Clouds. At the bottom of the Emu, there are two streaks of light. They are falling stars. Slightly higher and to the left of the falling stars is Crux Australis.
This scene left me speechless. Standing on this ancient, sacred land in the silence, viewing stars that existed millions of years ago.

Incredibile.

Ciao cara Lisa,
Speechless and open-mouthed!
Nature is incredibly beautiful and when you see something like this, you realise its extent and unimaginable power!
An amazing night scene, with just a hint of Earth to ground us!
There are problems with TE at the moment and no exif data is being loaded. I would be interested to know the shutter speed and ISO.
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Very nice night sky shot. Perhaps the exposure was a bit too long - the stars have moved a bit...
best regards

Ciao Lisa,
What a great night.I wonder what the result would have been at lets say et 500 ISO and a longer exposure. Have you tried it. The result is amazing.
Have a great day

Hi Lisa
Deep blue picture of the great blue yonder. Shooting stars top it off, but the overall picture is just terrific. I even like the car there.

Hello Lisa,
I could have sworn this was from a Disney cartoon from the 50's. This star-studded sky is almost too beautiful to be real, but on second thoughts I remember seeing something similar lying awake at night in the middle of the Sahara, with no light-pollution within hundreds of miles. The main difference is I didn't have the equipment to capture it like this. It's quite marvellous.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Lisa,
This is very beautiful! I can only imagine what a sky like this would look like in person; here in NYC we can only see a few of the brightest stars on a clear night. I really like the deep, blue color, and the dark silhouettes, too. Thanks for putting the EXIF data in your note. I see that some details on TE are still not working well. By the way, I have seen star photos where the rotation of the earth is evident with a very long exposure. Do you know how long of an exposure is necessary to capture the star trails that way?

Hello dear Lisa,
this is a magnificent view, you captured it in such a stunning way so that we can stare at it and enjoy it too. I recognized the Milky Way and spotted the shooting stars immediately but I also wonder how many constellations exist in your picture, probably countless, we'll never know. This is like staring at a big chapter of the history of the Universe. An awesome view, the blue ambiance is captivating. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,
Ourania

Hi Lisa
Starrry starrry night with ssshooting starsss!!!!
Happy memories of a warm clear night Lisa, with lots of crickets and owls on the foreground probably, he he...
What natural wonder you've got here in the clear night sky with the bonus of two shooting stars so clearly visible above the horizon both at an oblique angle sloping down from right to left, and the glow of the Milky Way is so fascinating...
Fantastic astrophotography at 25sec/Iso 6400 with excellent noise control. Witnessing these number of bright stars light years away before your eyes, and combining the depth is so amazing!! I really like how you framed this, so fantastic to see so close with first class detail, it must have been a real treat in person. Just brilliant work, and thanks to your useful notes in particular about the Emu. My compliments
Best wishes

Ciao Lisa,
amazing spectacle indeed! We had this discussion before already about the Southern Cross. You made wonderful presentations to advertise it few years ago and indeed I had a chance to check it out in person while going to Patagonia few years ago.
Fantastic quality here, perfect exposition.
This perspective should teach people to focus on what is really important.
Excellent work,

Hi Lisa!
This is surely a very beautiful sky and you managed to get a very good shot. So many stars there... Good result with the long exposure!

Ciao Lisa
This is one of the most compelling and beautiful images of the night sky I have ever seen. There is not a trace of the light pollution we experience near human dwellings and roads, the colours is incredible. Thinking about the emptiness and silence really makes me want to be there.
Very best wishes

Hi Lisa
this one gets me excited, shooting shooting stars and the milky way is a dream of Tosca's, and mine too.
I remember you have a few of these that you've shown us.
it must be so dark out here in the middle of nature without city lights.
was it cold?
so what tips do you have for us?
Tosca and I are going to Las Vegas on Sunday, but what we're really doing is driving out to 2 National Parks just East of Vegas. Going to Zion NP and Bryce Canyon NP.
Tosca wants to shoot the stars at night, but it will be freaking cold cold cold! expecting lots of snow too, so i'm not sure how clear the skies will be.
So you want to go with a high ISO right? and the lower the F Stop number the better? like a F2.8 or something like that?
there are so many awesome milky way shots out there, thats what we're hoping for. any tips would be helpful.
Ironic that you're posting this one now :)
fine post to have in your gallery!
keep them coming
cheers

Ciao cara Lisa,
How wonderful that you can find such a place as this with no light pollution and so be able to examine the constellations so perfectly in this beautifully clear sky!
A fabulous photograph which makes us realise just how insignificant we are as humans when we can see stars many light years away. You have taken this photograph perfectly and I think your exposure of 25 seconds is probably as slow as you can go without the movement of the stars (well, actually, the rotation of the Earth) causing light trails and making the stars appear oval rather than round. Unless, of course, you had some sort of set-up to track the constellations, as one might have with an astronomical telescope?
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.
P.S. Am I right in thinking that the Crux Australis is what is perhaps more commonly known as the Southern Cross? And what is an "intervalometer"?

Hello Lisa,
Wow, what a beautiful view of the Milky Way. In The Netherlands it's impossible to see this, due to way too much light pollution. The dark blue sky and the millions of stars are gorgeous and so well captured. The shooting stars are particularly nice. Can I also make a wish, if I see a shooting star in a photo? ;-)

Ciao cara Lisa
An incredible starry starry night and a nice capture of the shooting stars or comets at the bottom too. Did you see Halley's comet in 1986? Wishing I had had a digital camera way back then. Tfs!
