Photographer's Note
Have you ever seen Hitchcock's movie The Birds? Remember the swarm scene? Well hold that thought and then think of a swarm scene with little tiny fishies no bigger than half the size of your palm. This photo was taken when I was snorkelling on Ningaloo Reef, hoping to catch sight of the big, beautiful and harmless Whale Shark, which you have seen in a previous upload.
The reason these little fish were swarming can be seen in my Workshop photo. The silhouette you see is a Tiger Shark. This species (behind of course the Great White) are most responsible for fatal attacks on humans. Upon reaching the boat after a world record freestyle sprint, I must confess to needing a new wetsuit ;)

Hello Lisa,
This is really an amazing photo, so sharp and so beautiful, looking like a poster or maybe something out of an animated movie. The WS is "nice" too. I suppose the red streaks are not blood :-).
Best regards,

Ciao cara Lisa,
It really surprises me how few people mark photographers' notes as "useful" - because in this case I felt that your note was very much more scary than either of the wonderful photographs you've shown us today.
Your main photograph is delightful and, unlike Hitchcock's "The Birds", is not the slightest bit scary - in fact, I think it would make wonderful wallpaper for a kiddies' bathroom! The light and colours are divine and I love the simple composition in which we can just see a glimpse of the water's surface at the very top.
Then we read your note and empathise with your fear - all I can say is that you're a damn sight braver than I would have been - I wouldn't have ventured anywhere near the water - then we look at your workshop picture which clearly has been taken after the event and from above the surface - and we see a rather indistinct yet rather horrid and evil looking shape shimmering in the deep, presumably very near where you were actually swimming. Damn scary. In fact, it's a wonder you managed to hold your camera still enough to take that second picture.
Brilliant!
Kind Regards,
John.
P.S. Judging by the clarity of the water in both these shots, your shutter control has been second to none. :)

Hello dear Lisa,
I love this bright and liquid blue colour that fills the entire frame, my first thought, before reading your note, was that it felt so refreshing and relaxing:) So many fish swimming vigorously away from danger make the scene so vibrant. I like the endlessly repeated pattern and the glimpse of the surface from beneath. The workshop picture is awesome! Congratulations and thank you for living this experience and sharing it with us in such a lovely way!
All the best, have a great day,
Ourania

Hello Lisa,a lovely picture of the fish as they swim away from danger, although we would not have had any idea of danger from the way that they are spread out, so thank you for informing us.
I like the light that picks out some features of the fish as they swim across the frame.
A beautiful bright blue, and so clear.
Regards Jean.

Howdy NingalooLisa, (say that 10 times fast!)
Fantastic huge fish school scene, the lighting accentuates their swim. Even though I cannot visualize the big shark, just being aware of these guys is enough to make me wet my wet suit (Is that where they got the name?!)
I remember from our one day snorkel into your Great Barrier Reef, via boat, the guide telling us to stay on the starboard side, because the port side was called "shark alley", and "we will be eaten".
Good job,
Cheers,
Ray
PS: Thank you for the support and candle. Right now it will take a miracle, but goddamnitalltohell we will continue to fight.

Ciao Lisuccia
certo che ricordo quella scena e la tua similitudine θ molto appropriata, ma nel film non arrivava un uccello squalo a impaurire tutti!!!
Bel coraggio, non lo avrei fatto neanche sotto tortura.
Complimenti

On my first view of this peaceful blue shoal of fish, I thought you were simply lucky to find this large collection. Reading your notes,.....reversed the feeling. My first comparison was not really of the birds (....though those scenes of the 'swarms' of birds were and still is very scary) but of the quiet and peaceful scene in "Jaws" - that semblance of a perfect shallow-water bay, ideal for swimming.... beore that horrifying first attack...
Nice photograph Lisa, and a much better appreciation of your skills as a swimmer. :D

Hi Lisa
yeah....Tosca is now talking about going diving with you.
Oh dear, I better bring a good book and some sun screen lol
There's no way in heck i'll be going down there, unless of course you don't want me to make it back UP!
Don't ask Tosca that question lol
and you're right about the Tiger shark, its WAY more aggressive than any other shark out there. Unlike a Great White whom attack humans mostly out of mistake, the Tiger Shark attacks for the sake of attacking - yeah, I watch TV haha
fun photo, its something I'll never get to experience on my own. Maybe one day you'll post a shot of you and Tosca as a WS photo. She has her divers licence so she's all in.
thanks for this one as it reminds me how inadequate I am!
Cheers

Hi Lisa
Beautiful almost abstract, almost monochrome nature image.
And... well done on capturing the silhouette of the shark before your hasty retreat. I like the colours in that photo, it would make a nice upload in its own right.
Best wishes

Hi Lisa
A fabulous underwater imagery from your adventure and there's great feel of movement from the large school of fish wonderfully crisp, sharp and the clarity is second to none under this challenging circumstances!
The metallic iridescence is stunning, indeed a real pleasure to view, and thks for sharing wit us. Congrats
Best wishes

Dear Lisa,
Photo and super good comparison with Hitchcock's movie The Birds, but you do not risk everything for a photo would be a pity for you!
(I'm so glad that you've won the swimming competition with the shark!
(my English is really bad)
best regards

Carissima Lisa,
Molto bella questa scuola di piccoli pesci in acqua blu. Ma quando si legge la nota mi fa venire i brividi. Impressionante il mostro nel WS! Incredibile Lisa, sei una ragazza molto coragiosa !
Baci!
