Fraser Island

After tourism, recreational fishing is probably the most important activity on the island.

Fraser Islands Seventy Five Mile Beach is one of the world best beaches fishing in the world. All year round many anglers go to Fraser just for fishing along the beach. According to some people the best fishing season is in winter from June to September and it is not unusual to see dozens of people at the same time in one single area of beach.

During our trip to the island we saw several groups of people genuinely trying their luck but we also spotted some that were more in chatting mood than any other thing.

Remember what I said about the Portuguese fisherman in here? So, I guess the three guys on todays posting look pretty much the same as in Portugal, the only difference being that they may be talking about the latest 4WD model they bought instead of football. Ah, the drinks are different too, certainly beer and no wine!

Hello Antonio, Yes I can see the 4 wheel drive tracks. Lovely clear shot of these surf anglers, are they catching anything? sometimes being there & having ago is the prize the catch is a bonus. Nicely composed shot with beautiful natural colour.

Hi Antonio, you were a little early and just missed the Toyota Fishing Derby held up on Fraser Island. It just ended today. This thing pulls in fishermen and of course 4 Wheel Drives galore. Here's a link ( http://www.toyota.com.au/fraserisland ).

You are so right, fishing is such a big thing here. I've posted a few fishing shots, and I'll probably do a few more. This is a well captured shot of these three on the beach. What a great lifestyle. Nicely composed shot, great colour.

Mais uma cena engraηada, Antσnio.
Mesmo antes de ler a nota pensei logo na outra foto.
Nesta ficou curioso as canas cruzadas, mais ΰ esquerda.
Esta foto tambιm me fez lembrar que hoje comeηou uma greve do sector da pesca em Portugal (e outros paνses da Europa), reclamando ajuda devido aos preηos dos combustνveis.
(O pessoal do petrσleo deve estar enriquecendo ainda mais com estes preηos actuais ;-)

This beach fishing scene reminds me of the barrier islands along the North Carolina coast that are crowded with fisher men year round. Excellent clear vibrant colors with sharp details to this lovely image.

Hello Antonio,

I like very much this image of the three friends on the beach, their fishing poles leaning willy nilly at arbitrary angles, but in the background the horizon line created by the sea bisecting the frame vertically. Excellent photograph.

Hi Sr Antonio, apparently those fishermen enjoy their retirement period. The photo is very well balanced between the yellow sand, sea and the blue sky. The use of light is excellent. I guess in this kind of shots C.Polarizers help a lot. The composition is simple but gives a sense of relaxation. Best regards, Tolga

Very nice colors for the sea and the sand of the beach, and I like you r positionning of the fishermen. Surprisingly I had heard about the island indirectly though TE: a lady painter living on the island asked me once for a picture to use as a model for a painting (I do not know what happened to the project...) Ele hα coisas que nγo diferem assim tanto quer se esteja na Austrαlia ou quase nos seus antνpodas, como ι Portugal. O sγo convνvio masculino, ι uma delas e uma das manifestaηυes tνpicas ι a pesca, que tal como noutras ocasiυes, o pretexto ι muito mais importante que a actividade em si mesma. O que importa que nγo se pesque nada? Para passar umas horas numa praia daquelas e boa companhia (dos amigos e das cervejas, claro!), todos os pretextos sγo bons!

Os 3 amigos. Nunca pesquei, mas acho que ι uma actividade muito interessante para limpar o cιrebro. Se bem que sempre achei estranho a sua actividade na praia - se experimentar quero estar em penhascos e nγo na areia... ;-) Bom paralelismo com os pescadores Portugueses. De facto, estes parecem estar mais na conversa do que a pescar...Boa foto.
