Photographer's Note
Best opened in a new tab for better detail.
I'm just back from a great 2 weeks exploring outback New South Wales in areas with no mobile phone reception and no Wi-Fi. Most of the time was spent on what is called the Darling River Run along Australia's longest river. If you look on a Google map we started the run at Brewarrina in the north and finished near Pooncarie in the south.
Most of the roads were dirt with this one being typical. Many of the roads are closed after rain and rain it did one day so we had to make a couple of long detours. The car is extremely dusty from the trip.
That metal grating is a cattle grid to stop cattle and sheep escaping from the huge paddocks as many public roads go through private property.

Hello Ian, What a joy to travel like this, in the places with no people in sight. Asnd it is sometimes good to be away of telephone and In ternet. Earlier, people lived like that and survived. Splendid road, nice gum trees on both side. Excellent perspective.
Best regards MAlgo

Hello Ian,
Welcome back. I like the quiet simplicity of this kind of scenery with the dirt road going straight through the wilderness. The weather looks quite pleasant too. This photo reminded me that "cattle grid" was an expression I learned on my first journey to England many years ago. I have remembered those words ever since.
Best regards,
Gert

Bonjour, cher Ian,
Une bien belle faηon de dιcouvrir ce continent et des particularitιs qui s'y rattachent.
J'imagine assez bien la terre dιtrempιe par les pluies diluviennes.
Bien vu cette barriθre au sol.

Hello Ian,
I looked on Google!
You travelled between 700 and 790 miles and the land looks extremely arid!
This is a good introduction, the cattle grid opening its arms to welcome us and the path guiding us straight into the adventure.
Your photograph is well exposed.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Ian,
The cattle grid will probably stop animals from crossing but on this picture it looks like an entrance gate to the area where you have experienced your new adventures.
The fairly flat terrain has quite a lot of trees, but a poor growth under the trees, at least for cattle, I think.
As often on this site, I look at the month when pictures were taken and knowing that the seasons are reversed in the Southern Hemisphere, I try to see in this photo whether wintry elements are present. The seasons are of course very different in different places on earth. So this may be the ideal time of year to travel in New South Wales ...
At least a period without forest fires, I think. But perhaps there is now a risk of flooding.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Ian, I can imagine the sound as you drive over the cattle grid!
An excellent point of view where the width of the road completely fills the foreground.
It seems to be inviting us to follow the road, although I would call this a track!
Looking forward to seeing where you have been.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Ian,
I really like the symmetry of the photo as well as the perspectve of the long dirt road, whose warm colour makes a nice contrast with the green vegetation on both sides. The metal grating stands out well too.

Hi Ian,
intersting rural scene here, its very common in Brazil too, called "mata-burro" or "donkey-kill" with an improvised translation, rsrs. Great job, my friend.

Hello Ian,
I'm happy that you had some free time from mobile phones and WIFI. The photo itself is well-composed. I like this tiny bridge.
Best Wishes,
Gy.
