October Canopy
Superior Hiking Trail
Duluth, Minnesota

from a beautiful autumn day along the Superior Hiking Trail as it winds through Duluth, Minnesota.

The North Woods (Laurentian Mixed Forest) make up a large region of Northern Minnesota (as well as parts of Wisconsin, Michigan, New England, and Southern Ontario). The area serves as a transition between the boreal forest to the North and the Big Woods to the south (with many characteristics of both). It has ares of both broadleaf and conifer forests, bogs, and swamps. Conifers include pines, spruces, firs, and junipers; deciduous types include aspens, oaks, paper birches mountain ash, and maples. The north woods of Minnesota has an annual precipitation range of about 21-32 inches ... and a normal annual temperature about 34ΊF (1ΊC).
