Photographer's Note
Horseshoe Bend
It was the week before we went to San Francisco, when we visited Page, a city with about 7000 inhabitants near Lake Powell. Apart from Lake Powell, which is also really beautiful to visit (and to go swimming), there are several other places to tour, like Glen Canyon Dam, Antelope Canyon, the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument or, just a little bit in the north (already in Utah), Codachrome Basin State Park. And, of course, the famous Horseshoe Bend, which is a really huge and spectacular U-turn (meander) of the Colorado River about 6 kilometers south of Page.
From the parking lot it is a walk of about 1.2 kilometers (about 15 to 25 minutes) to the bend and to see the whole U-turn (or take a photo of it ;) you have to go to the foremost edge of the rocks.....so people with acrophobia should take care.
Anyway, I can just add, that I was really impressed by the view and it was one of the most spectacular places I΄ve visited during the whole trip.
The Photo
It is really hard to imagine the enormous size of the bend. I also didn΄t imagine the U-turn that big when I came there, although I had seen many pictures of it before. So it is also quite difficult to get a photo, where you can see the whole bend. First of all I tried it with my 16mm lens, but you either couldn΄t see the horizon or the bottom of the bend - no chance. So, I had to try making some panoramas, what worked far better. I think, this shot is a stitch of three (or it also might be four) upright format pictures next to each other. At least I΄m glad I finally got a photo where you can see the whole bend and its surrounding area :)
I΄m glad for any advice, hint or proposition, that could help me to improve my photography.

Hallo Jonas! Liebe Gruesse, Barbara.

hi, Jonas,
nice sightseeing shot! for landscape photo, wide angle lens always good to have. i guess it was at noon time when u took it. i think if u take it at afternoon or use a polarize filter, will make more red on the rock and also the water will more green! it still a wonderful shot. thanks for sharing!

Hallo Jonas,
So there you stood, were we all stood, what a view he...
My good old 17m/m could catch it on my old 1.3 sensor, but my three vertical stiching image is much better and you also show us the stitch version. It looks great, just as it should look...wide and open...great work.
Middle of the day, best time to go there to see the bend in full light. Maybe the blue could be a bit more for even more contrast to those reds, but i like it also as you present it here.
Great shot and stitch my friend...really good work...an image with a wow from a location with a wow..!!!
Take care, Henk

Hi Jonas,
omg!!! I think I need to talk to your parents. ;-) Wow, they let you get right on the edge? What a shot! Does your Dad have a workshop photo for us? I'd love to see where you were standing.
Great photo! Wonderful pov - I *really* love the rocks in the f/g that look like a left and right foot - do you see it? Was that intentional?
Excellent work! Hope to see you again soon!

Jonas,
This may be one of the best Horseshoe Bend image I've ever seen so far, and so complete. Fantastics color and details and great overall shot of the surrounding area. Really great job on this one. I have not yet been there myself, this really make me want to go there sooner than later. Thanks so much.

Hello Jonas!
That's such a wonderful landscape and you have captured it so nicely, with an excellent photo quality!
Besides all the natural beauty of the place, with extremely neat colors and light, there's one thing that really caught my attention at the very bottom of the picture: the rocks seem to be two feet, as if they were the photographers! I thought it was sort of funny and added more interest to the image!
TFS - Congratulations!
Warmest regards and I'll be back later!

Hi Jonas.
I had stay in front of horseshoe bend in June and i agree with you: it's really difficult to reproduce the sensation of the real size with a picture, because in real it's too large.
Your picture is really well exposed and you were here at the better hour without too much shadow.
For my part, i had take 4 pictures with 18mm and use Panorama Factory (i'll publish later).
I hope you were at Antelope canyon and if yes, i wait to see them.
Have a nice day

Olα Jonas, it's almost impossible not saying wow, everytime I see this view. It's not new and it will be very dificult to see a better version of the one presented by Floydian, but you still did an impressive work. Much better than what I would have done if I was there ;-) The composition is perfect and perfectly presented - everything is there, including the nice stripe of sky, the stones in FG (that seem like two feet ;-) and the cliff on the sides. May be it would be nice to see the wall at right side similar to the left side but that's a minor detail and I don't know if it was possible. Congratulations.
best regards,

Hi Jonas,
Facing such an amazing view, originality is perfectly secondary. It's a gorgeous image, spotlessly exposed and featuring great colours and sharpness. I thought to myself that this is a good example of how a great wide angle can produce impressive results, but I got even more impressed when I knew that you had to stitch several shots to produce this beauty. You did a wonderful job, both at the time of shooting and at PP'ing. Bravo!

Hi Jonas,
An impression of fisheye here. Fabulous landscape and of a beautiful vastness. The glance carries far, it is impressive. Good framing of image which amplifies the impression of depth. The luminosity is good. Beautiful work Jonas, cheer.
With all my friendships and a very good WE,

Hello Jonas
A million images from Horseshoe but can we ever get sick of it? - I don't thinks so. I have stood to this exact point also, thing is I didn't have a good lens to capture the whole beauty and therefore have never put mine on - no reason to when there are better ones out there like this.
I don't know if you have noticed or if it was pure luck, but the two rocks at the bottom do look like feet that has been mentioned. That makes this more impressive Jonas.
Great work
Jim

Hallo Jonas,
Klasse ! Stitch is the key to get that ultra wide angle and really show the place, and your stitch is excellent, as is image quality, I feel I'm diving into it, love it !
Have a nice day JY

Hello Jonas
We have seen this view from a few master photographers in this site & now from you, a budding master. Excellent stitching to show the vast expanse. The light would have been quite harsh...do not know whether this was shot nearer noon time. This place is truly amazing! I found the rock outcrops in the FG (the lower frame) very interesting. Looks like part of two giant feet (with toes & fingers)ready to jump! Fine work Jonas!
Best Regards
Angshu
