Photographer's Note
I don't know about the rest of you, but I have this problem of going to post a photo without having thought of what I'm going to title it. So my titles always end up being kind of blah. Oh well, I guess the picture is the important thing.
Looking through Allan Farnsworth's gallery of Southern Utah, I decided the time had come to post this one. It's been quite some time since I've posted any red rock--nearly seven months--so I thought this might be a welcome change from my recent theme of mountains/lakes.
This is Cedar Breaks National Monument about a half-hour from Cedar City, Utah, often mistaken for its larger, more-famous, and lower-altitude cousin, Bryce Canyon. I've been to Bryce several times, but I hadn't been to Cedar Breaks since 2000. My wife and I (well, mostly me) decided to stop there on our way home from our family reunion in July. We only got to spend about 20 minutes there, but we weren't disappointed.
This is the view from Supreme Point, I believe it's called. It was a bit windy when we were there, and it was fast getting overcast, though this shot doesn't portray either of those conditions. Hopefully I can return in a couple years and really get to know the place.

Hi, Clark -
Hey, it's not the worst title I've seen here! (How's that for faint praise?)
But, title or not, it's a great picture, showing very well the vastness and variety of that part of the world. I like the colors in the cloud, too. The one thing I might suggest is deepening the shadows in the bottom of the canyon a bit more, to emphasize their depth.
Between you and Fulvio, you're going to drive me out there!

Wow, what fantastic colour! That's worth a shot by itself. The different shades of pink and orange are just stunning. I've never been to Cdear Breaks, but it looks just as impressive as Bryce. Great detail in this. Well done!

Hi Clark, what a stuning and beautiful shot of this arid country scene, very intriguing fields for sure but it has a great feeling to it at the same time, brilliant composition and POV, well done, thanks for sharing it with us, regards, Joao Salas

It sure is a supreme view, Clark!
I hit Cedar Breaks on Aug. 19, coming from Bryce, freaking cold up there and VERY bad light, so... my shots are really not worth posting.
But you more than made up for me with this one, buddy.
Wonderful skies and awesome overall colors.
Damn great shot!
Cheers,
Fulvio.

I’m glad you posted this as big as possible cause the details in the rocks are what make this photo so interesting. The clouds cooperated very nicely. Can you believe I've never been to Cedar Breaks? I really need to go sometime.

Clark,
regardless of the title, this is a marvelous shot. My very first impression was that this is Bryce Canyon, but than reading carefully through your note I got to learn a new place to get to as soon as I start planning to go back to Utah. I never heard about this place before. The colors are fantastic and the complementing clouds makes this a gorgeous shot.
Cheers, Peter
