Hey Kevin...
Now, as opposed to the shot I just critiqued (sunset), this photo makes sense to use the large aperture...Iunfortunately there is too much distraction to let us focus on the subject in this shot. I'm sure you were on some precarious footing, but getting closer to the little guy and eliminating some of the distracting branches on the right would have helped this shot very much. Looks as though you were shooting with some backlighting...this can be very difficult. It seems that your compensation has thrown the white-balance off a little so the colors seem dull. Again, having the subject fill the frame a little more would have helped you control the lighting. I also notice the purple color at the bottom left; is that a lens flare?
I hope you don't mind me offering advice, I think you deserve some feedback though.
