Photographer's Note

This is "MariMekko" cow, the second in my series on cows of CowParade Boston 2006. She is hanging about with the "bee-mooo-tiful" people in the flowerbox-strewn, sidewalk cafe-studded milieu of Boylston St. in the Back Bay area of Boston.

Marimekko is a Finnish textile and clothing design company established in 1951 and known for its contemporary, clean-lined and colorful textile designs. Ms. MM cow is sporting what is arguably Marimekko's most popular and recognizable textile pattern, "Unikko", which was designed by Maija Isola in 1964 and is still produced by the company, in a variety of colors, today. A personal reminiscence: my friends and I stretching large pieces of Marimekko fabric across stretcher bars to make bright, bold, easy and inexpensive "art" to decorate the walls of our first apartments back in the 1970s.

The Boston CowParade is being held to raise funds for the Jimmy Fund, supporting cancer research and care. The cows are on display throughout the city for several months, after which they will be auctioned off.

Technical: The image was cropped slightly.
