Photographer's Note

Here in Ocean Beach (OB), we're the weather wimps of the world, we whine we're cold when the temperature goes below 65 (18) and we complain about the awful heat when it goes over 75 (24). But no place is perfect, we haven't had rain for a ling time.

Yesterday, it finally rained, washing the sky. It was such a beautiful day, I had to give up on my Alaska photos and shoot some clouds. I started behind my house; I wanted to share Dog Beach, a place of great joy for dogs & owners because, “Dogs run Free,” here. They come from all over the county, You can hear the dogs barking in joy as their humans drive past our house. Since it hadn't rained for a long time, the usual spring daisys were dry & brown.

I ended up on Sunset Cliffs, looking back at the entrance to Mission Bay Harbor. The regatta is just off Dog Beach, the houses in the background are in Pacific Beach while La Jolla’s Mt. Soledad lurks in the clouds. My beloved OB rests unseen in the curve of the bay to the right. The Sunset Cliffs area is OB’s slice of Point Loma. Although many residents would argue that they live in classier Point Loma, their zip code is 92107. OB has long been considered a home to low-life types like hippies, surfers and the homeless. But the hippie activists made OB one of the most desirable places in the area by keeping housing density and traffic low. It’s a place of many old beach cottages; the zoning rules made owners reluctant to rebuild because they would have less units. Alas, property values are now so high that these small cottages are being rebuilt and the activists that made OB unique are being priced out of town.

PP: Photoshop: auto Smart fix, an amazing tool!!

UPdate: Wow, You can see the OB Pier in the Map photo. If you zoom out, you can see where we live on W Point Loma, down toward the beach end. That map tool!! You can find the latitiude and Longitude data at: http://www.melissadata.com/lookups/GeoCoder.asp?InData=92107&Process=Submit
