Photographer's Note
Yellowstone National Park is the first national park to be so designated in the U.S.--possibly the world. This time of year (August) is always very, very busy, and it is difficult to drive through because of so much traffic. Everyone stops when they see any kind of wildlife, so it is like a giant traffic jam in the middle of the wilderness (hints: wake up EARLY, and get off the beaten path!).
In winter, though, it is a magical place (also if you leave the main roads in Summer). It gets very cold here, and it snows a lot, and so the steamy water and geyers become wonderlands for faeries, or one would think. Only guided tours are allowed on the roads or on any machine, though one is free to snowshoe or ski in. In our case, we took the guided tour, but I'd rather just go off exploring.

A very appealing picture with the gentle folds of snow and the stream meandering through the middle. The dark trees create a dark band along the one-thind line, neatly dividing the frame. You have a very soft feel to this picture. Is this the result of NeatImage, smart blur or something similar?

A fin picture David, and a breath of cold air that I appreciate during this very hot summer.
Neatimage makes the snow look like smooth ice cream...works very well.

As always your photos this one is beautiful. The snow carved by the heat from the earth is gorgeous. The steam rising and shrouding the trees is gorgeous.
I love the title because it reminds me of one of my favorite poems by Frost.
Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favour fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

Sublimation et vapeurs : Incroyable !
Bonjour David.
Ce parc est grandiose.
J'apprιcie beaucoup le cadrage avec l'avant-plan qui donne une bonne profondeur ΰ la composition.
Sublimation and steam: Incredible!
Hello David. This park is imposing. I appreciate much framing with the foreground which gives a good depth to the composition.

Hi David. Yes I am almost positive Yellowstone was the first National Park in the world. I like how we can't really tell where the snow stops and the steam starts. At least you have that little blue patch in the sky. Nice shot David!

Hello David,
I like the graphism in this shot very much, almost a natural B/W picture with a bit of blue sky.Looks like you cought some waterdrops on your lense but somehow it is supporting the atmosphere here.
Have a nice Sunday,

Hi David,
It's a fitting refreshing view to be posted in the middle of the summer, it has a nice cooling factor, a good perspective following the river and a spectacular dimension due to the geothermal steam, I'm also amazed by the smoothness that helps it lean towards painting.
Have a nice sunday,
Jean-Yves

The steam does make an amazing effect. I also like how the pathway made by the melted snow leads you through the picture.

What a perspective and what a atmosphere picture, the misty above the snow, between the pine trees, splendid winter view middle in the summer for us.
Very well done!

Hello David! I had the opportunity to see alos the Yellowstone with snow despite it was end of June but it was it was fallen and there was not so much than here! I was at Yellowstone Canyon and not there too. Anyway, it was a magic moment!
But here, you captured very well the snow with the steam. Very well done!

Great picture, volumes of the snow are very intersting, it brings a successfull mix of different textures. Fog at the background give a special atmosphere to the landscape. Well done

Hi David,
A impressive nature picture with so different white elements and atmosphere. Very well captured and with a very good angle of view and enquadrement. A refreshing picture to Summer. Fine steam rising near the trees.
Spendid composition!
Best to you.

Hi David. It looks great in winter indeed, like a magical space and as you write somewhat reminiscent of a fairy-tale setting. I like how the hot water is finding its way in between the snowy patches, and how the shape of the layer of rising smoke somewhat echoes the formation of trees in the back. Also a brilliant work with the exposure on this one. Very nice.

Oh,
what a soft and mellow snowscape, David!
Lovely colours and misterious steam coming up in front of the trees.
Great!

Hello David
AH winter!it is my season
A magical season where everything as we know it can change appearance overnight, giving the feeling of a carnaval.
I love those scene where water and snow dance to a different tune at every bend,a place where I have a tendency to stop.
I tried infrared, for the fun of it,in this kind of scenery, with the coniferous trees tight on both side of the river. It is kind of special.
I like your photo a lot

Excellent presentation of the creek David. The soft impression (PP?) works very well in combination with the freezing smoke. Very good work (..or maybe your usual standard :)

Hola David.
