Photographer's Note
Yesterday a waterfall; the day before the volcano; today........ This is Myrtle Falls in the foreground. It is easily reached by a paved trail from the Paradise Hotel. Judging by the quality of the water the falls are from snowmelt.Look at my travelogue for more info.; there I tell of the planning for future volcanic eruptions. See my WS for evidence.
Such a scene needed careful handling so a husband/wife conference ensued and experiments made. If I'm honest I think he pressed the shutter for this one so he has to have the credit; We set a -0.7 exposure, as we thought for bright conditions 1/200 was a bit slow but we wanted the DOF. It was however, a little bit under-exposed in parts so in PP I selected the tree on the left and brightened with curves and another selection of the bit between the tree and the waterfall I brightened even more. I did consider cloning out the people but decided to leave them for scale purposes as they are not too obtrusive.
Here's the result; I hope you like it.

hey kath, another nice shot incorporating both the mountain and the falls! i like it, i think it may be my favourite so far! good sharpness, good framing with the trees, i like the people there to give some scale to it as you say! i wouldnt have thought the falls were that big from first look. that is until i saw the people and the bridge! i hope you see many more shots of this visit from you in the next few weeks! thanks for sharing

Hi Kath,
Another great shot. The waterfall on the foreground is very nice, composing very well with the mountain and the exhuberant vegetation. I am enjoying your travelogue. Keep posting.

Hi Kath,
I like this the best of your Mount Rainier photos. The lead in of the waterfalll and the beautiful contrasting colours of the sky, the snow and the greens make a great photo. Well done.

Hi Kath,
Wow, this is one of my favorite Mt. Ranier shots and I just found it. You've managed to get the full mountain a grassy foreground with a curving path, the bridge over a waterfall as well as the people for scale. Not too obtrusive? I can barely find the people! I like your story about planning the photo; sometime we can't figure out which shot is whose. he WS photo is fun.
I'm thinking of you hiking in Sardina; I'm jealous :-)
Regards, Pat
