Photographer's Note
The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. This is a very impressive lighthouse, overlooking the outerbanks.
As any lighthouse, in the entry to it there are the exact coordinates of it. However in this case, there are two listings: old coordinates and new coordinates. The explanation is almost as amazing as the view from the top of it: it was moved!
I can't remember when exactly it was, but due to erosion of the bank the lighthouse was "getting too close to the water for its own good" and there was a danger it would fall. So instead of giving up on it (as there are electronic markers in the water anyway), they decided to move it. They built an underground rail, and somehow moved this intire huge building to a "drier" spot, so now it stands safly again in the midst of a most beutiful park. The rail is still there for people to see...

What a beautiful lighthouse! You captured it very well, with it's simple house half superposed and fence around, contrasting with the giant. Good exposure and light. Thanks for that moment of fresh sea breeze.

This is a beautiful lighthouse. It is also a special for me, because I'm used to see them being red and white, not black and white. It is a well balanced shot and the fence adds the little extra a photo needs to be special. Good job, well seen!

Great composition and very nice, deep colors. The story of this lighthouse is indeed fascinating. It was moved, by the way, quite recently - in 1999. To my disappointment, it was still closed to visitors when I visited there...

I love to photograph lighthouses. I have not got to this one yet. Perhaps next year. The B+W tower really stands out with that beautiful blue sky. Well done.

Hi, I'm from NC and I don't mean this to be mean at all, but this lighthouse is actually Bodie Island Lighthouse, not Cape Hatteras. Hatteras is black and white, but actually has more diagonal stripes and a reddish brick bottom.

This isn't the Cape Hatteras lighthouse, it's the Bodie Island Lighthouse. It's also located close to the town of Nags Head, if you want to add a geographic location.
