Photographer's Note

In my opinion the tree right in the middle of the frame takes away from the picture. It's very distracting and it draws my eyes away from the slops and the mountains in the background. Maybe repositioning to take that tree out of the photo or not in the center of the frame would have made this photo more appealing.

Kurt I think the right half of this picture, say cropping to the left of the cloud, makes a cohesive composition. The left half feels redundant and dilutes the remainder. The sky colour is a little oversaturated IMHO. Regards, Leigh.

Thank Jason and Leigh for great comments. I am too found it is too saturated after I post it in a hurry. I agree with you two on everything.

Kurt ... I have to agree with Leigh. When I looked at this shot I found myself holding my hand over the left half ... and seeing a wonderful composition!

I like the diagnals of the trees on the left side of the frame. I just might think the main subject "the bells" might be better positioned nearly a third of the way from the outer left edge. This would make a nice stitched together pano IMHO if you had another frame taken further to the right. I have some similarly composed photos of the same location. A beautiful, but difficult place to photograph.

Kurt...wow...this is a very nice shot.I have been to this place three times but still want to go back tomorrow if I could!!But KurtI don't think the composition is bad at all.You know what I think if you can crop the left side a bit this will wtill make a very interesting photograph. The rock on the left is dominating the scene where the subject is Maroon Bells with the cloud, if you reduce the left a bit it will be interesting I think.Like Steven said it is a hard place to photograph. But I am sure we all will go back...don't you agree, to come back with much better shots...6/6

Kurt, I like the diagonal slopes and the cloud cap. I have no problems with the colors --- this is the usual Velvia saturation.
From my own experiences and mistakes, I have come to realize that Velvia has very high contrast. And, if the scenary has high contrast as well (like when the sun has risen more than 2 hours already), Velvia gives me too much contrast.
