Photographer's Note
This little corner has to do with the fact that Gerald Ford was assigned to the Public Works Committee when he was first elected to the Congress. President Truman had implored the committee to appropriate funds to renovate the dilapidated White House.
The small piece of burned wood in the display was removed from the White House during its renovation. It is a remnant of the fire set by British soldiers to the President's House in 1814.
These days, GB and the USA are on very friendly terms, but that is not how it has always been. The American Revolutionary War (1775-1783) was fought against the British. After America's independence from Britain, Northwest Indian War (1785-1793), War of 1812 (1812-1815), Aroostook War (1838–1839) and Pig War (1859) were all fought against the British. In the War of 1812, British troops burned Washington in August 1814, before American victories at Baltimore and Plattsburgh in September ended fighting in the north.

Hello Murat,
This is an interesting and a bit unusual picture. The photo of the White House provides a good background and it's sharp enough to give us a good idea of the work being done.
Sweden has fought a lot of wars throughout our history against Denmark and Russia. Another war with Denmark is of course out of the question now, but we can only hope we won't have another armed conflict with Russia.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Murat,
A good photo of this small piece of wood from the White House and a photo of the building in the background. The warm tones of the wood stand out well from the blurry black and white photograph.

Hi Murat,
I really like your note that gives a good description of the reason for showing that little piece of wood like a holy relic. The photo of the White House is very interesting showing vehicles and scaffolding used on renovations.

Hi Murat, ships and medals, but the most original piece is surely this part of burned wood from White House, great idea and great perspective too with the blurred pic of work in progress in background. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

murat
a curious image matching the timber piece and the old photo. this remind me the presidents of argentina avoid to restore their palace because usually they are removed after that, because this they only restore it by parts.
take care
jorge
