The United States Capitol In Better Days
Yesterday when I uploaded my happy little French frogs I had no idea that I would dive into my photo archive today to pick out some photos of the Capitol in Washington in better days.
Shocked and but also fascinated, I watched late into the night the unimaginable but perhaps also predictable events in Washington DC.
Calls for the president's impeachment under the 25th Amendment (impeachment on the grounds of insanity) were growing and this is the place in history that Donald Trump undoubtedly deserves with his toxic persistence in his lies, but is this also the most sensible solution? I dare not say it.
I watched until the Senate and Congress showed the strength of American democracy and got on with what they were doing as President-encouraged riots set out to conquer the Capitol: Confirming the election of Biden and Harris as President and Vice President of the United States. USA.
Reassuringly, at the end of this day, American democracy finally, but alarmingly, there are still a small number of Republican senators and congressmen who support the president's evil fairy tale because they believe it best serves their own ambitions. .

Hello Rob,
As photos generally these are probably not your most memorable shots, but they could hardly be better timed. If the maniac in the White House had ever read any books he would have noticed how similar he is to the fascist leader portraid by Sinclair Lewis in "It can't happen here". What else will he do during hist last 13 days in office? In the TV series "Years and years" he drops a nuclear bomb on a Chinese artificial island outside Vietnam on his last day as president (the pessimist who wrote the screenplay made it 2025).
We will have to hold our breath until January 20, 6 PM our time.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Rob,
Your composition is showing an almost empty place compared to the event of January 6,2021. The point of view is showing the details of the Capitol building. The light is enhancing the colours. Have a nice day.

Dag Rob,

Hello Rob,
Not to believe what we saw yesterday, remarkable in the bad manner.
I visited this place first time in 11/1977, than again on 07/1978. Always realized & enjoyed the dignified ambiance in every corner both inside and around.
Wonderful wide view of the nfacade, the two ladies enliven the scene.
Good afternoon,
Ike

Hi Rob,
This place looks so serene on this picture. No crowds no havoc. Fairly close angle gives a good idea of how tall the dome is, including the statue on top.

Hello Rob, we visited this part of Washington pre digital camera, so I have no shots to share.
Three excellent shots that illustrate the size and impressive building.
I am surprised to see so few people in the picture, but the two young women are well placed.
As to Mr Trump and the happenings in Washington! Our lunchtime news programme was full of it today.Fingers crossed that nothing more happens before the 20th.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Rob.
Fantastic the three photos of the Capitol, which we see in all its tranquility and normality, and not with the atrocities of the hundreds of vandals, very good note accompanying the images.
A magnificent color, which gives the image a lot of chromatic richness.
Excellent clarity, sharpness and perspective.
Well done. I like it.
Have a nice day.
All the best for you.
Luis.

Hallo Rob,

Hi Rob,
I don't watch TV. I save so much time on it. But I suppose some images reach me anyway, so I have seen the capitol building with the protesters.
I certainly prefer this image with the two attractive ladies walking towards it.
Not an easy light here with the facade being in the shade but there was enough light to make it stand out well.
Nice contribution, I didn't have a chance to visit Washington yet.
Very well done,
M

Hallo Rob,
Vele groeten, Paul

Hello Rob,
This is definitely the sort of peaceful scene that we expect to see from Capital Hill! You have achieved a sharp, symmetrical shot of the building, using the girls as interesting, effective guides inwards.
Your w/s photographs are good, too, but this is the one which creates the greatest impression of calm, the absolute opposite to what we witnessed yesterday, on the TV.
This morning Trump has issued a statement deploring the actions of the protestors, though it is very much felt he was reading a script prepared for him ... not convincing!
Let's hope democracy prevails more peacefully,
Bev :-)

Ciao Rob
Missed this one. For sure, taken in better days when Obama was steering the USA steady as she goes. Good sharpness and perspective. Tfs!

Dear Rob,
A nice collection of photos taken in a more peaceful period, before the nightmare of the Trump-era. If he ever achieved anything, no it is null and void after his hysteria. Anyhow, I like the chill atmosphere of the main upload with the two ladies walking towards the Capitol.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hello Rob,
This is a beautiful photo of our capitol in peaceful times. The two women in the foreground show just how large the building is, and everything seems so quiet. I won't start writing about the current, sad state of affairs; I wouldn't even know where to begin. It's all very worrisome and stressful. I hope you're taking care!

a nice view with excellent use of personages and diagonals in FG and the famous building ahead.
I hope biden brings more peace and get to heal the american society, so divided.most of people of a society aren't radicals, and with the correct acts he can bring back part of the electors who became near of the radicalism.
take care
