Photographer's Note
Progressing up river, a wide and relatively flat floodplain allows hikers the ability to choose their own route. The freedom to explore yields a less established trail.
In the central background, the face of the Vermilion Cliffs is burnished by the rising sun. They are the portion of the National Monument breezed by by those using US 89A on their way to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon or the towns in the Arizona Strip or those heading for Kanab, Utah and beyond.
