Kitesailing is one of the many water related activities in Saipan. I had been living there for about 2-1/2 years and this was one of the last pictures I took before leaving the island. Watesports, both above and below the surface, are very popular on the island. I prefer SCUBA diving myself. If you are a SCUBA diver, you will love it there. SCUBA diving pictures will be posted in the future.

The weather you see in the picture is very typical of Saipan (and Micronesia in general) year round. If is usually sunny and the sun is truely brighter than you can imagine. For that reason, polarizers, neutral density (ND) filters, and small reflectors (to both block the sun and to add fill to cut down the dynamic range of the light) are all necessary. This picture was shot handheld. It was cropped slightly and the horizon was straightened.
