Photographer's Note

Ive been feeling a bit out of sorts lately, so I went to the see a specialist, and the diagnosis is insure enough, Ive apparently picked up an acute case of Abstractosis. A good affliction to have though! :)

I was prescribed some medication and should be returning to more traditional type pictures shortlythe doctor said the effects will start kicking in pretty fast. Just glad I didnt have to turn my head and cough for the exam!?

After some admonition from Brian, I finally decided to make a trek in to the city centerwhich unfortunately is about an hours drive from my place. Needless to say, its not often I venture there without good cause.a lot of which is directly related to big city traffic. I didnt quite have the best directional light for most shots, but I did stumble upon a few decent ones, this being my favoritewhich actually worked out best after the sun had set.

If youre wondering what this crazy picture is all about, take a quick look at the WS, itll make much more sense than the abstract framing you see here. This is looking straight upwards on what is known as the Sky Bloom, a public artwork in downtown Phoenix.

Approximately 100ft./30.5m high and 100ft./30.5m wide, its made up of lightly colored netting, which is then illuminated once the sun goes down by various solar powered LED colored lamps which produce this effect. The artists (Janet Echelman) design was inspired by desert Saguaro flowers and their layers of color and textures, but its viewed differently by just about everyone. It could be a spaceship, a mushroom, a jellyfish, or even a giant condomwhatever your imagination wants to envision, let it run wild!

Thanks for stopping by.
