Photographer's Note
Up north of Kaanapali in Maui is Honolua Mokuleia Bay where the seasoned surfers tackle the big surf. If you are interested in capturing surfing photos make sure you arrive here in the morning because the lighting sucks in the afternoon. There are a couple of ledges where you can shoot at a downward angle like this and this is one of my favorites. The problem with surfing is these guys make it look easy, and until you try it yourself...I would suggest try surfing lessons on much calmer shorelines in Kaanapali.

Hi Paul: As a lover of sports action photography and because I shoot sports action to put food on the table, I appreciate quality images such as this. The position of the surfer's arms, the teal blue background formed by the wave, the red accent in the swim shorts and surf board all work very well. And it's tack sharp. Very well done. I'd love to get over to Hawaii some time to shoot some surfing.

Nice, shot, Paul. You have captured the movement and interaction of the surfer and the wave very nicely. The color of the water is excellent.
My daughter is a surfer in Hawaii (core leader of Christian Surfers, Honolulu), so I've seen a lot of surfing photos from there. Gorgeous place.

Nice sharp picture of this surfer, concentrated on his action not to fall and have a lot of fun. Good high POV to catch him well lighted. I like the foam and water color, and the red spots contrasting well with the other hues.
I agree with you on your comment: sports seen at the TV or on a picture seem very easy to practice, but...... the truth is different!

Paul - great action shot. The blue of the wave serves as a nice backdrop, the colors are vibrant, and it's amazingly sharp all the way around.
