Photographer's Note
Bend is a city located in Deschutes County, Oregon, United States. The name Bend was derived from "Farewell Bend," the designation used by early pioneers to refer to the location along the Deschutes River, one of the few fordable points along the river. The city has done an amazing job of making its riverfront accessible and attractive. The area photographed is the former site of a logging mill. Now parks and walkways follow the river on each side; theaters, art galleries, housing, shopping and restaurants make the area an interesting destination. On the skyline, you can see Mt Bachelor, Broken Top and the Three Sisters, all part of the Cascade volcano chain. While they seem miniscule in the photo, they are a BIG presence on the Bend skyline.
The photo is dedicated to the Bend Film Festival since I was here in the early morning for a film. My favorites were, “The Road to Fallujah,” a documentary about the devastation in this city; ‘Back to the Garden,’ featuring footage from 1988 and 2007 of hippies who returned to the land to live a simple life including interviews with their now grown children; ‘The Blue Bus,’ a road trip from Los Angeles to New Orleans by two friends returning to say goodbye to another friend, the soundtrack was great jazz, and Finally, ‘The Mouse that Soared,’ an animated short. Aside from the Road to Fallujah, which more than confirmed my thoughts on the ‘liberation’ of Iraq, the other films were upbeat.
It’s also farewell Bend because we’re heading to our San Diego home for awhile.

Hi Pat,
This is so sureal, really beautiful like a very stylized painting rather than a photograph. Okay may abit to realistic for a painting but to surreal to be a realistic photograph, the red tree looks like giant tree full of red hot chilli peper. Very stylize pp work, very warm tone. Thanks

Hi Pat,
Those red trees catch attention immediately, they are spectacular. This gives an impression of a cosy little town on the edge of wilderness. Large panorama would be nice to see.

Nicel done Pat. Lovely saturated colours from these maples (imported from New England no doubt).I like the POV you chose with the trees framing the image on each side. Have a safe trip to San Diego and post something from there soon.

Olα Pat,
Great, colorful panorama. It seems that New England's fall colors are found also in Oregon.

I guess that I'd like to see that Film Festival too.

Winter is approaching, so you're back to SD. You're lucky people ;-)
Have a nice journey!

Hello Pat
The red folage simply pops out of the picture. Composed very well with the bend in the FG, with the industrial scene in the BG, and more interestingly the hills in the BG which are bathed by the warm glow of light.
Have a good time in San Diego and take care

Hi Pat,
this impression of a cosy little town is obviously inspired by the Film Festival! Me, the viewer, gets the feeling of sitting in a car or train, passing by the cityscape. It is a perfect illusion!
Colors and light are fantastic, especially the red leaves of the trees. Wonderful photo work!
Warm regards

Hello Pat,
A saturation of the colors which give even more flambloyant to this autumn which is splendid here. Pretty panorama with much of depth and a good clearness which enables us to see very well the tops at the horizon. A superb area, thank you Pat.

A stunning view and a beautiful landscape, I notice the snowcapped mountain in the back...

Hello Pat -
It looks like fall is well on it's way in the further reaches of the west coast. The pano format works very well and I like the Cascades just peeking up over the horizon. Well presented.
Jo and I had dinner with Peter last night and had a wonderful time at a Brazilian Steak House. He is off to Zion on Nov 3 for a 3-day WS and 7-days of exploring. I am off to the BA on Nov 6 for a seminar and a few days of visiting my old stomping grounds.
Thank you for sharing.

Hello Pat, Good to see you are still posting. Great panorama of this area. The fall colors are marvelous and the small tip of MT Bachelor gives this some great depth. I have been here many times. I think the last time was over six years ago to a wedding on New Years Eve at the Sunriver resort. Delightful area. When we moved from NY to Oregon, we had to decide should we have a small place here or on the beach at Manzanita, OR. We opted for the latter. BTW, sold that place 17 years later and had a house in Escondido, but never lived there. I am going to look over some more of your shots. Roger
