Photographer's Note
We happened on an old abandoned farmyard in northern Oregon on a recent trip through the area. I realize that B & W doesn't attract the attention on TE that color does, and while I have this same shot in color, somehow this image was best shared in B & W although I added a wee touch of Sepia to soften the hue and add a touch of "warmth", if you know what I mean. I also left the sharpness on the soft side. I'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas on how I have treated and presented this gem. Hi Gerald,
Interesting juxtaposition of two old buildings, full of character and nostalgia.
You are right that B&W doesn't have the upper hand on TE, but I think it suits your subject with relevancy. I also follow your thought about warm grey touch.
Cheers!

Hello Gerald,
Black and white suits the mood perfectly here. I like the point of view and the juxtaposition between the two buildings. The clouds add much to the atmosphere; one of them even looks like a puff of smoke from the chimney. Beautifully rendered tones and textures.

Hi Gerald, interesting B & W scenary. Surely it gives the sensation of abandon of the house. Good details and frame. Compliments, Adele

Hi Tom
je suis certain que cette maison a connu des jours meilleurs la elle est complθtement abandonnι et le fait que tu est pris B/W rend la photo encore plus dramatique, superbe.

Gerald,
I do think B&W is the perfect and classic choice here for the subject. Great observation, I can never seem to find such place to photograph. I think the sharpness is just right too, the sky is normall a bit soft anyway. Good composition and beautiful colors, Oh Wait there is no color :)

Bonjour Gerald,
cette vieille batisse donne bien en duotone, une imahe country dirais-je. Bien cadrιen de la profondeur avec ce deuxiθme bβtiment en arriθre plan.
Une expo parfaite.
Best regards.
Daniel.

Hello Gerald.
Your b/w treatment of this picture lends it an air of timelessness and nostalgia. Your composition, including the house behind and making a pleasing angle of the front house, is well conceived. The image itself is just sharp enough and has a good level of contrast. I like very much the brightness in the clouds and the light playing on the ramshackle roof. This picture certainly creates a strong sense of isolation and abandonment. Very nicely done and good note.

Andrew

B&W seems to be the perfect choice for this old barn, and although B&W isn't my fortι, the light touch of warmth works well. What was your thinking about leaving the sharpening soft? It looks sharp enough to me, as we can see all the detail and texture, but without that extra 'edge'.

Hello Gerald,
J'ai l'impression de me retrouve ΰ Waltnut Grove !
La vue de ces anciennes maisons manquent quelque peu de contraste. L'idιe du cadrage est ιgalement bien pensιe avec cette deuxiθme maison en arriθre plan.

Hi Gerald!
Nice feeling in this one....the open spaces of I am guessing...north-eastern Oregan. I like the Black and white treatment...nice change. Very effective! Nice work, and yes I am back....perhaps with not so much frequency as before....but still snappen. Kind regards,
Steve

Hi Gerald,
Great shot of this long ago abandonded homestead that is seen in clear crisp detail.
The b&w format gives this one timeless feel.
Regards, Tom
